What responsibilities do you take when it comes to keeping the house clean?

Unmarried or uncoupled guys -- if you did have a significant other in your life, what kinds of chores would you expect to do around the house?

I tried doing my wife's laundry once, ONCE. I was told thanks but no thanks. I do pay for the maid though...

And that's fair enough. Hell, I won't even let Tommy Boy do his own laundry.

No choice in the matter, its just me and the teenage son at present. :)

TBH, though, housework tends to get behind around here. I get around to it when I fricken' feel like getting around to it. I do wash clothes regularly; everything else is whenever I notice that something is past due for cleaning. I make the boy do a share.

If I had an SO in the house at this time? Depends. I have no problem with cooking, I'm used to it and do it most nights. I do laundry, no big. Otherwise... either the SO would do it or I'd do it when I fricken' well feel like doing it (see previous paragraph). Since most women have a considerably lower tolerance for housework left undone than most men... oh well...

Yes, as did my dad when we were growing up. The only thing I won't do is clean the toilet. Beyond that it is just whatever needs to be done although technically I am banned from ever touching the iron because of my peculiar ability to iron in wrinkles that do not easily come out. I am allowed to do it on my own clothes in an emergency, just nobody else's.

Two marriages have taught me this: I do what I'm told, neither more nor less.

Before my wife retired, I cooked.. a lot, and like to cook.
I don't get to cook much anymore,:(.
Besides that I fix things, and pay the bills.
P.S. I still get to grill stuff. :)

I did them all, thinking I was being a great husband.

That was a mistake.

Turns out women only want a man who helps. Men who do the majority of housework are seen as domesticated and less attractive.

I have been banned from doing any laundry but my own, as I don't sort. I load and unload the dishwasher. Other random bits, but in general whatever I do 'is wrong' because it's not done the 'her way'. I don't know what her way is other than immensely time consuming. I can clean a bathroom in no time flat, she can spend hours in there ... I don't see any difference in end results.

I don't have any problem loading or unloading a dishwasher, sweeping a floor, picking up trash, or doing any other number of menial tasks so long as I'm not the only one doing them. I'll even do my own laundry when the occasion calls for it.

I friggin' hate yard work though.

I'm a better cook than pretty much everyone I've ever dated. So I do all the cooking. Everything else varies.

You must realize that some men are bachelors, and although it's rare in the human species for men to do sissy chores, sometimes they must be done.

I can soooo sympathize with your wife. About 25 or so years ago, my pretty blue wool sweater was resized to fit a 6 year-old, via a man doing the laundry.

No, it's not mine. I don't have a man-cave per se.

My entire home is a man-cave...but yeah, I do rock

I think that place is my son's dream home. He has sent me on a mission to find a 70's colored glass (preferably red or harvest gold) swag lamp, in my junking expeditions, because he wants to put it in the house he's going to build.

Trash, dishes, sweep, vacuum, laundry....no dusting. I'll clean bathrooms and counters but I generally get a "fail". It also seems that I don't know how to make a bed or mop....so much for all those years in the military:lol:

No, she and the older ladies often over to help out absolutely will not allow me to do any housework or to step into the kitchen. I'm ok with that and try to make it up to her and them in other ways. I appreciate their efforts greatly and do not take it for granted.

Yeah. I recently discovered that fancy placemats with tassels don't go in the wash. Seems that they end up all shrunk down and the tassels just aren't the same....and everything else in the load has strings all over it....much worse than washing a pack of cigarettes.

Hell, I'm never sure what I will find in my laundry. I'm the world's worst at not checking pockets, and also at putting everything imaginable in my pockets when I'm out working in the yard. It's nothing unusual for me to find screws, seeds/packets, receipts, cell phone...........:)
