"A viral video showing an art gallery owner spraying an unhoused woman with a hose has sparked widespread backlash across the internet."

For the price of a cup of coffee ($5), he could bribe the woman to not camp in front of his store during the day, as long as she didn't tell anyone else. These poor souls don't sleep in the cold with the bugs and filth for fun, they're destitute.

The homeless make people uncomfortable partially because they are a reminder that the system isn’t perfect and it doesn’t work out for everyone. The fact is most people are happy with whatever solution makes the homeless “go away” so they aren’t visible. If you make your city intolerable to the homeless so they go to whatever city is the least openly hostile that’s a good enough solution for many.

That’s why discussions around homelessness are almost always framed as a regional problem instead of a national problem. Because if it’s a national problem then the issue is framed around reducing overall homelessness instead of just getting them out of YOUR city.

Some, who are addicts, choose the life but it is a disease. The rest are mentally and physically disabled or simply have fallen on hard times with unemployment and living costs. So they shouldn't be treated poorly on top of their predicament.

You know if he pays her to leave he will find half a dozen homeless waiting for their $5.
That said it was an awful thing to do.

The next day he would have 10 people show up wanting $5. The day after 20.

His business would shut down eventually as most consumers are nervous when walking around the homeless. With no idea if they have mental issues or substance abuse issues. My wife works downtown in retail and has very bad experiences with homeless nearly every day. Knifes have been pulled, some pull down their pants in the store

Did you miss the part where I said her $5 was determined on the basis that she did not tell anyone else?

What, you’re telling me you except us to read your posts BEFORE we reply to them? That seems a little unreasonable dont you think? ;)

Yes but Soylent Green would solve hunger, over population, and provide a moral achievement for homeless. "I helped others!"

It wasn't exactly a wall of text, hahaha.

I'd have to be pretty damned starved to become a cannibal, eating people crackers. YUK!

She'll tell them for another $5 dollars...

Every city I'm sure has buildings that are not being used and haven't been for years. Have the homeless with the guidance of people who know what they are doing rehab the place to make it livable. It would give them a bit of a sense of pride and maybe even belonging? Why it's such a problem taking care of the least of us amazes me while others are purchasing half million dollar pocketbooks.

If the gov told big corporations we're going to tax you more unless you solve this crisis in a humane fashion, it would be done yesterday.

Home and shop owners are responsible for the bordering sidewalks.

I wish I could upvote this 100 times.

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Right, now what happens if she does tell others? She has the $5 and nothing to stop her from telling others after the fact. Unless he promises to pay $5 every day she does not stay in front
