Mass. Court Allows Legislature to Consider Placing Gay Marriage Ban on Ballot

Navy Pride said:
As will 90% of all gays if they were polled.............Its "Feel Good" liberals and a small portion of the gay community that pushes gay marriage....

What part of "he wants marriage" confused you?

Fine, I don't believe you on the your friend issuing marriage liscenses.

The ramifications are staggering, but also correct legally. And by the way, it was done in many European countries without these staggering consequences...now wasn't it?

I don't care what you believe........

We are not Europe...If you want to marry a guy move to Canada......

If you can't disprove the independent poll, it's valid. Should be easy to do, if the evidence exists. Just look for a recent poll from Mass. where support was lower. Good luck.

Like I said the good people of Mass. are primarily Roman Catholic and the Roman Catholic Church is adamently against gay marraige so I would not count my chickens before they hatch if I were you.......

If gay marriage is approved though I will accept it as the will of the people and not go to some activist judge to change the will of the people like the left does..........

It just means we will have 49 states with amendments and one without........

:sigh: jallman? The guy we were talking about?

hmmmm, I thought you jumped on me for bringing him up..

That said jallman has told me he would accept civil unions with full benefits, as would I, because he knows gay marriage is just not realistic.........

It will be interesting to see how Massachusetts goes here. Navy is right--Massachusetts has a high Roman Catholic population, but that state has been "blue" since I can't remember when.

My mother is a devout Catholic--goes to mass every single day. She is against abortion and all that kind of Catholic stuff. HOWEVER, she says that gay people should be allowed to marry. I think many of her friends feel the same way.

Did I forget to mention that my mom and dad live in Massachusetts? lol

The point remains that Europe has instituted the changes and there is no staggering change. Care to respond to that? Or, are we just not it and thus it doesn't matter. (Hint-it matters because it goes against waht you were arguing)

Navy Pride, I have a question for you. If this goes on the ballot and gay marriage is approved by the public (as seems likely), will you stop bitching about "activist judges" since it would be the will of the people of Massachusetts? Or will you just find some other justification for your homophobia?

The same could be said for you libs if the voters approve of a state constitutional ban on gay marriage.

From Wikipedia.

"In some states, particularly in New England and some western states, a majority of people have expressed support for same-sex marriage. A Massachusetts poll conducted in October 2003 estimated that 59 percent of registered voters believed that gay or lesbian couples should have the right to enter into civil marriage. "

Also, from about.com....

"A statewide poll by Mass Equality in May 2005 found that 62% of those Massachusetts residents polled support marriage equality for gays and lesbians."

As long as they call it "gay marriage" perhaps that will work, but it must not be marriage, that is between a man, and a woman.

Well if you're going to bring him up, make sure you don't misquote him. He prefers marriage to civil unions. Hoever, knowing that some silly Americans are fearful of changing the definition of a word, he's willing to settle for civil unions.

Oh, see I already quoted that poll. He won't buy it.

If that is so I wonder why Mass. is so out of step with the rest of this country.........

Again I will say i see all these polls that favor the liberal stance but why are Conservatives never polled on this issue..........I know of no Conservative that supports gay marriage and I know a lot of Conservatives.....

That is what I said...........He knows that gay marriage has very little chance to pass in this country so he will settle for civil unions with full benefits.......That is my exact stance on the issue to........

You know I have said I will abide by the vote of the good people of Mass on the issue if it does not go my way............

Now I ask my liberal friends here will you do the same?

Yes and no. I will abide by the vote, but I will also work to convince the people that I know from MAssacusetts that all people deserve to be able to marry who they want to. I think in the long run, I will win out.

And would you hope it would go back to the judicial again so activist judges can throw out the will of the people?

Frankly, if it is badly worded and would allow me to go back to the judiciary for a legal finding of fact based upon it, yes I would. As would any conservative politico who was faced with the same prospect...you use every tool at your disposal. But honestly, if it is worded great and they shoot it down, I have no problem with that...I will bide by time.

Wrong again, unlike you I would agree with the democratic process and bow to the will of the people of Mass..........

I guess that is the difference between a Liberal and a Conservative........

Well, conservative groups don't agree with your tatics because they are too laid back and leave things in the hands of the voters. Just as the liberal ones are.

Just the difference between knowing what's up, and not (guess who is not).

Can you give me and example of where conservatives wnet to activist judges to turn back the will of the people?

I think your right. If the libs lose this one, they'll shop it to a rat judge to steal the people's vote.
