Major League Baseball 2021

T. Walker has pitched well. Carrasco & Thor to come.
Walker has pitched fairly well, but he has struggled to pitch efficiently and get past the 5th inning. He also has an injury history and hasn't pitched more than 53 innings since 2017, so I'm taking a wait and see approach with him.

It's still early, but I am astonished at the turn around in the standings. Good teams from a year or two ago now suck, and really bad teams are now in first place.

Who was good that now sucks: Yankees, Twins, Astros

Who sucked that is now good: Mets, Red Sox, Royals

Weird

I wouldn't call the Mets 'good' right now. Their offense is pitiful, their defense is bad. Only their starting pitching is good, their SP Era is around 2. That's what is carrying them, that's all.

It's early, the weather is cold. Their offense has to pick up to have a good chance in their division..

The defense is a problem. Davis, Smith and Alonso are all best suited to be DHs, honestly. The offense SHOULD pick up. Lindor is actually hitting pretty well but getting unlucky as a sub .200 babip will arrest. Alonso and Smith are start to hit a little bit too. The bottom 3 in the rotation haven't been great, but getting Thor, Lugo and Carrasco back will be huge.

In previous years, I’ve heard baseball people refer to what happened to the Mets in Chicago as the ‘Colorado effect’, following their series there.

NL East -6; NL Cent +1; NL West +8; AL East -3; AL Cent -8; AL West +8; that radio app is awesome; thanks again; looking at the TV app;

Underdogs continue to outperform favorites straight up for the year, 5-3 last night. Batters are still catching up. Brewers staff is loaded. Mets should be when they get their starters back.

SEA/BOS series continues ...

Mets went front freezing NY to freezing Colorado to freezing Chicago.. Add in all the off days and postponements. I'm not surprised their offense is bad right now. But once the weather warms up their bat's have to warm up too..

I’ve got deGrom with ten Ks plus and the Mets winning at a +130 parlay. Braves at -168 juice to win. Jays/Rays under 3 in 5 innings at +125.

Sportsbook apps are nice. I see New York is behind weed and sports gambling states like IL and PA.

deGrom definitely got you those Ks.

One earned run and 50 Ks in 29 innings. That's other worldly.
I can see him breaking Seavers 10 Ks in a row record... And breaking or tying the 19 Ks (iirc the NL record) in a game record.. Besides how good he is now, but overall strikeouts are up in the game, big time
Yesterday I read the Nationals strikeout 27% of their at bats...

I'm sure other teams are close..

BTW for now he surpassed Seaver, deGrom now has the best career Era in Mets history.

The record is 20... Kerry Wood in about 1998.

The game is getting hard to watch. Way too many strikeouts, fewer quality hitters that can actually hit.

Players like Ricky Henderson do not exist in today's game.

Look at the shift. Smart hitters could beat the shift in the past.

It is really sad.

Mets have played the least amount of games in MLB.. But they have given up the 2nd most unearned runs..

That speaks volumes..

OK, what do we think about a 7 inning no hitter being an official no hitter?

He will need to pitch well otherwise he might lose his rotation spot when the others return.

20-25 games into the season--15% of it roughly--everything looks bizarre.

Red and White Sox are destroying teams, both with +20 scoring differentials. Dodgers are +32, but everyone knew they would be good. The two Sox teams being at or near the top comes as a surprise.

Terrible teams: Tigers and Rockies, although the latter is somehow +6 in scoring even though they are under .400. Tigers are -37, about what we would expect for a team playing at .318.

Yanks look bad. Reds are up and down, currently down and on a 7-game losing streak. Brewers, Athletics and Royals are all in first place. And, the Dodgers are on pace to win 110 games.
