Apparently Louisiana Police in Baton Rouge have been using the states anti-sodomy law to target gay men in stings where officers chat them up and proceed to offer to take them home for some fun. Upon arriving at their homes they are arrested under Louisiana's "Crimes Against Nature" law. The problem is that this law, and others like it, were struck down by the US Supreme Court in 2003 under the Lawrence vs. Texas decision. The District Attorney has also refused to prosecute any of the cases citing the fact that no crime had been committed.

So what's the excuse? Well the laws are on the books, so they have to be enforced. In the form of an anti-gay sting operation that consumes dozens of man hours, police patrol time, and of course money. Right.

This has got to be one of the most egregious wastes of public resources from the police I've heard of in a long while. Pursuing elaborate police operations to nab people for arrest on charges that are palpably not crimes for the sake of sating obvious bigotry on the police force.

more from the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said Sunday it should have taken a different approach with a task force that made at least a dozen arrests since 2011 using a struck-down law to arrest men at parish parks who discussed or agreed to have consensual sex with undercover agents.

But Metro Councilman John Delgado sent an email to the Sheriff’s Office saying Sheriff Sid Gautreaux owes an apology to the men arrested and the entire parish.

Like many conservative-dominated states Louisiana has refused to erase discriminatory laws that were negated by the SCOTUS decision in Lawrence v. Texas . As Councilman Delgado notes,
“Ignorance of the law is no excuse,” he said. “Doesn’t your office tell people that all the time?”

We use to live in an apartment next to 5 transvestite male prostitutes. They would often share their adventures with us, telling how occasionally they would be in the middle of a sex act only to have a badge stuck in their face letting them know they were being busted for prostitution and such.

Mess up life life if you ask me.

I'm not quite sure how this applies?

They were Gay, (sort of) getting banged by the cops and being arrested. This was back before the 2003 decision (LAWRENCE V. TEXAS) so the were arrested for sodomy also.

If you want me to say the cops are just screwing with these people for no reason, forget about it.

I mean it wasn't for no reason, they did it because they were bigoted.

No wonder we can't get **** straight in this country. This article taught me they have too many cops. Do themselves a favor, fire these guys or the person who can't use resources correctly. What a joke.

Where is Eric Holder when you need him? Surely this is a violation of civil rights. I hope some lawyer get these victims some compensation.
