Obama Exploits the Ignorance of Young People to Seize Control of the Internet

On Thursday the FCC is gonna vote on net neutrality. I have some people sending me e-mail, asking me what it is. I'll sum it up as best I can for you, but what is going to happen Thursday is a direct result of Obama hijacking the effort -- essentially, let me just put it to you this way. Do you own a website, do you operate a website? If Obama gets his way, you're gonna have to get a license for it just like radio and TV stations get licenses, because the Internet is gonna be subject to regulation under Title II like broadcast facilities are. Cable is not, but over the air broadcast -- But they can't wait to regulate the Internet, folks, they just can't wait.
There's too much freedom out there. There's too many people, quote, unquote, "out of control" on the Internet, and Obama and the Democrats have gotta get it controlled. And the way they're doing it is capitalizing on the stupidity of young people. Maybe "stupidity" is the wrong word. Ignorance and lack of information resulting from they haven't lived long enough to know.

Please show me what part of this forces websites to attain a license, this is a blatant lie. There is too much freedom, the freedom to say things like this and pass it off as fact. Title II regulates ISPs not websites.

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

What the hell are you blabbering about?

It'll be interesting to see.

If my wifi bill went down from 60+ a month to anything below 50+ a month due to some ****ing competition that'd be great.

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

Is that the guy with the "ching chong chang" incident and who called native americans "those savages"?

There is a homeless guy in Hamburg central trainstation who tells people that he fought in the napoleonic wars against Napoleon himself with a laser machine gun.

I`ll take that mans word over the word of Limbaugh anytime, for that is at least entertaining rather than simply grotesk.

The FCC hasn't made public the rules that they're going to apply.

Now about " freedom " ? How can there be " too much Freedom " and who are you empowering to be the arbiter of whats " free speech " and whats not ?

Those that agree with you ideologically ? Those who share your Political affiliation ?

Sounds like your'e all for the Government regulating and policing content on the internet.

Well it was a joke about what Limbaugh said. Well the job of the FCC is to regulate ISPs (and the entire point of Title II) and not to mention that the FCC could never enforce it.

I don't know about that... i've been looking over title II for a few weeks now ... and if ISPs are reclassified under Title II by the FCC, there is going to be all sorts of problems.

the thing is, these problems don't need to exist, provided we go about this correctly
the FCC has the authority to reclassify them under title II... but it does not have the authority to say " this part of tittle II applies, but not that part"...it can't pick and choose what applies, and it doesn't have the authority to amend title II to suit it's whims ...these are authorities that belong to congress and congress alone.

and this is why this whole thing is going to land right back in court.

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

I mean that was my concern from day 1... the thought of Net Neutrality is great, but I have no idea why people are so confident it would be implemented correctly with government oversight.... it kind of gives the government an open door to apply for more control on the internet... there are little to no harsh restrictions on current and future power in the act.

The thing about companies is that they can be controlled with your money, they need the public to approve that they are doing or they will not get the money which is the soul thing of their desire.

The government can't be controlled by such things... the only thing that controls the government are the big company lobbyists and the crooks in Washington.

It's crazy how such good intentions can so easily be taken advantage of... like it really seems stupid to me, are these "Young people" really that idiotic?
If you do something like this you HAVE TO make sure it's done right with STRICT control of government oversight/power

I just hope these details and claims are untrue, but unfortunately I see most the population as being very Naive.

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

If you want the internet to be more like cable TV-especially the requirement that you have to pay for a lot of channels that you don't want to get the channel that you do want, then you may be against net neutrality.

If you want the internet to be available to everyone with all content sources treated equally with no preference for those channels willing to pay ISPs extra for faster speeds, then you should support net neutrality. Otherwise, the big media companies will dominate the internet (as they already dominate TV, radio, movie distribution and print media) and new businesses, small businesses and not for profit content providers will be confined to the slowest lanes and be hard to access.

No, it is not that simple... and you're post seems extremely Naive. Net Neutrality is great.... Net Neutrality how it will be implemented is a concern. Too much opportunity of control, what happens when huge company lobbyist use the domain given to the government to regulate freedom of information and data sharing. It has the potential for everything to be "piracy".... and I am a huge supporter of free community sharing internet.

I'm sure those "young people" knew and debated about net neutrality well before it was a blip on Rush Limbaughs radar....net neutrality isn't new to "young people". Stories have been written and share for awhile now. I noticed it didn't start getting even mentioned on this website outside of a couple of threads until Ted Cruz lurched into the subject after stuffing his coat pockets with cable company money.

I agree that the devil is in the details and we need to look closely at the actual regulations when they are released and respond quickly.

Do you feel like your cable company cares what you think? Your influence as a consumer is insignificant compared to the influence of the other interests that the cable company depends on. For example, the big content providers can demand that their unpopular channel be included in a bundle with their popular channels. In addition the shopping channels give a portion of their sales to the cable operators, that is why there are so many shopping channels, it isn't because they are all that popular.

Government can be influenced by voters and non-profit organizations, when they make an effort. In fact the whole issue of Net Neutrality wouldn't even be an issue if it wasn't for organizations such as the EFF.

I have to wonder why you even bother with a political forum since you seem to think that political advocacy is all futile. ("the only thing that controls the government are the big company lobbyists and the crooks in Washington)

The internet used to be under title 2. In fact, DSL was slow to spread through Bell Company markets until the FCC required Bell Companies to offer DSL as an "open access" service...afterwards DSL exploded. The Bell Companies were afraid that DSL would cannibalize their growing second-phone line market....one phone line and an additional one for dial up

It wasn't until after the tech boom in 2002 that broadband was designated "information services" which would lie outside of Title II.

They care about about my money... and I always care about anti-monopoly oligopoly laws being in place...

And not that it's futile to make an effort to make change in government, but you have to be careful who you make allies with...

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

Whichever option results in the least regulation is the one I'll support.

I have to wonder how much of what the conservative media says about net neutrality is the truth.Because when you listen to some of these pundits talk it as though they know nothing about how internet service works. They make it sound as though netflix and their customers just hired some schmucks to climb up a telephone and hooked them up to the internet instead of paying ISP for a certian upload and download rate or that everybody pays pays a flat fee regardless of upload and download speed they use. They talk about how netflix uses 30% of the internet pipeline while ignoring the fact netflix customers paid their ISP to use that so called 30% of the internet pipeline. Then they invent some nonsense how net neutrality is a commie plot to take over the internet and squeeze out the little guy. So I have to wonder who is exploiting ignorance.

That was your major malfunction. Limbaugh has been the number one talk show in the US for 25 years. He is right most of the time. He exposes the lies and hypocrisy of liberals daily. You just show us all what a fool you are, every time you post.

LEFT GROUPS NOW FEAR: GOV'T NET GRAB GOING TOO FAR!

Dear FCC: Rethink The Vague "General Conduct" Rule

For many months, EFF has been working with a broad coalition of advocates to persuade the Federal Communications Commission to adopt new Open Internet rules that would survive legal scrutiny and actually help protect the Open Internet. Our message has been clear from the beginning: the FCC has a role to play, but its role must be firmly bounded.

Every time these bozos in DC get involved in something...it costs all of us more money. I think if they pass this absolute BS Ruling.....places like this will fold up because they won't be able to afford to operate. liberal Demos and sometimes Republicans, just shoot themselves in the foot ....!

Not to mention that any privacy that may have been in tact....will be laid wide open for government agencies.....

The USA is already a Police State........this will bolster their dominance over average citizens even more!

Yeah, I bet you still believe you can keep your helathcare too.

If it's so good, why is the FCC Chairman not letting anyone see the bill? Running from committees demanding information?

Re: LIMBAUGH: 'Net neutrality as honest a name as Affordable Care Act'...

FCC CHAIR REFUSES TO APPEAR BEFORE CONGRESS AHEAD OF INTERNET TAKEOVER

Two prominent House committee chairs are “deeply disappointed” in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as “the future of the Internet is at stake.” Wheeler’s refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCC’s vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committee’s chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue.
