Trump didn't refer to the neo-Nazis as "fine people." He said there were very fine people on both sides, meaning those with oppositional viewpoints, those trying to protect statues and those trying to tear them down.
Can you honestly say what this character means or meant? I can't because it seems he doesn't even know his own mind and speaks to play to the particular mob he's preaching to on any particular day. He's doing tricks for the vote.
Even when he says something, he'll say the opposite the next day and then deny ever even saying it to begin with. I was one of those who said he won the election, let's give him a fair chance. Well, after watching, listening and observing, I personally don't give him any benefit of the doubt anymore.
He has talk show hosts like Rush and Hannity whispering in his ear on how he can defend his outrageous remarks once they spill out of his mouth, I listen to conservative talk radio a lot and know all about that. Unfortunately all of the AM talk radio stations have been taken over by conservative christian owners, and they just added a new station to the mix.
There are no alternatives, the republicans are scrambling to get their 'opinions' out in a big way, there are no opposite views to be found. I listen on and off to hear what they're saying, and each day I'm amazed to hear how far out they're becoming. Even hosts like Dennis Prager who use to be somewhat truthful and realistic, has become a Trump worshiper and has lost any credibility he's ever had...sad in a way to see them fold like that. They're jumping through hoops to make excuses for this guy in office.
I really did wish him success, didn't want him to fail, and wished the best for the country under his watch, but like many others, am not only disappointed, but thoroughly disgusted. Just my opinion, but I can't see how folks continue to excuse his behavior and speech.
