President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, was reportedly denied security clearance last year over concerns of foreign influence and private business interests, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. The Post, citing people familiar with the situation, identified Kushner as the "Senior White House Official 1" identified in House Oversight Committee documents released this week. According to the documents, the individual was denied security clearance initially by career officials before being overruled by Carl Kline, who headed the White House’s personnel security office at the time.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) on Monday released a memo detailing allegations from Tricia Newbold, a whistleblower who has worked as a career official in the Executive Office of the President for 18 years. Newbold told the committee last month that officials in the Trump administration overruled her and others' recommendations not to grant security clearances to 25 individuals. She also reportedly told the committee that a background investigation into Kushner brought concerns regarding foreign influence, personal conduct and other business interests, according to the Post.

The issues raised by Kushner's background check were not made clear, but the Post reported in 2018 that foreign officials had allegedly discussed ways to influence Kushner by leveraging his business dealings and lack of foreign policy experience.

The United Arab Emirates, China, Israel and Mexico reportedly discussed such efforts, current and former officials told the paper.

That's right, just as I've said all along, the Russian collusion confusion was a smoke screen to cover up the real relationships which should require Kushner, and perhaps others in Trump's circle to register as foreign agents. But when you're working for Israel, the UAE, and China, you're immune to such things. You can practice dual loyalties all day long, just as long those loyalties don't include Russia.

Trumps shady presidency on display ;)

Doesn't the article suggest that he was denied security clearance due to the UAE, China and Israel ?

The word Russia does not appear in the article.

I didn't ever really consider the idea of Trump being in a conspiracy with Russia to be a serious theory.

Trump and the people around him never anticipated to win. They used the campaign as a marketing gimmick to extend their brands and services to ventures both domestic and foreign, never anticipating they could actually go all the way, and so they never considered even the possibility of these offers being a problem.

Mueller came across the influence of Middle-Eastern money on the Trump campaign and Kushner, and passed the matter off to US attorney's in DC and NY.

Kushner sought loans from all of the players above, and possibly Russia's VTB.

I wonder if he still owes money on those debts. Merely owing money to a foreign institution, even a perfectly legal loan, can be enough to have a security clearance denied.

I still owes Deutsche bank hundreds of millions of dollars.

Forget the Kush, the guy in the WH wouldn't pass a security clearance.

That is certainly true. But alas, Presidents don't have or require a security clearance. While the authority has been delegated down, technically a security clearance just means that the President has given you permission to access need-to-know information. A President doesn't need to give himself permission. I wish there was a good way to change that but I would also be afraid of the security clearance process becoming politicized if it we required Presidential candidates to qualify for a security clearance.

Have you ever sought a clearance? Do you have any family members that have a clearance? I do. Fact is I had 4 family members who held and 1 of them who still holds TS/SCI clearance. A large part of the getting clearance is who you known or do business with. For my parents is was easy. For my brother's (and later my mother) the clearance became harder because I did business overseas. I had to go into interviews when their clearance came up for renew. Had to show no debts to foreign banks or 3rd parties that could be used as leverage. I was always aware of that because of how I grew up with My grandfather and parents having clearances (they taught me, no debt, no problem).

Kushner has foreign business, probably never expected to hold a role in the White House. So his contacts and his debts triggered a no. But it doesn't mean it's nefarious. Israel and UAE are American allies. In fact we had several US high level Government employees who have Dual Citizenship with Israel. Hell, G.W.B's WH's was a game of who was more Israeli (Jewish).

But now people care? Nobody cared about Obama's staff..

Amen, I've passed several Federal security clearances. They go deep, trust me.

Its an absolute farce how this idiot administration has no problem skirting the rules when it comes to their fellow sleazy swampmates.

Yup, I've passed a secret clearance a few times with the State Department. It is not something to be trifled with. And....the last two times, I did it with a dual citizenship (Ireland), and it was no problem, because I had nothing to hide whatsoever. I also had to disclose every country I traveled to in a 10 year period, there were many, they only focused in on Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Jared must have some really nasty stuff in his background.
