Ignorance knows no boundaries. Who in their right mind would leave such young children alone? Why wouldn't they have just taken the children with them, or get a sitter.

happens all too often. I worked with the foster care system for nearly 15 years as a foster parent and you'd be surprised at how many kids are in the system because the mother left them home alone. both of my adopted sons were taken by DHR because the cops found them wanderiing the streets at 2 a.m. after their mother's had left them home alone.

and there are a bunch of people who have no option but to leave their young children unattended - because they are without the means to provide child care in order to work
but this incident does not pass the smell test
Then, you get them dressed and ready and take them with you, considering these people were not going to work.
Yeah really - they were in their car driving around.
Might as well have just overdosed them on cold meds like so many other parents have done, or left them in a vehicle over night.
I'm having my new boyfriend over for dinner. How much cold medicine should I give my 3-year-old to make sure she sleeps through the evening? She weighs about 30 pounds.
People are nuckin' futz.

if that was the reason in this instance that the kids had been left alone [recognizing that it was NOT], would we still be so outraged?

Major infraction for my response. People are nuckin' futz.
Yes. Yes we would.
Disgusting. Sadly some people just don't care.
you would be outraged that the kids died in the fire because their parent had left them alone in order to go to work?!
you misunderstood my post then
i am in no way defending the women who left their kids to take the handiman back to his home
that did not require both of them to give him a ride
one could - and should - have stayed home with the kids
but what i was also noting is that massive numbers of young kids are left home unattended as their parents (or parent) are without the means to provide for child care while they leave home to do something they must: go to work to provide for the kids
if that was the reason in this instance that the kids had been left alone [recognizing that it was NOT], would we still be so outraged?

Yup. A few years ago, there was a woman in the apartment above me with herself and 4 children under 8 years old packed into a little 2-bedroom apartment.
She left her children completely alone at 9 in the evening to go out and party. An hour or two later, my ceiling started leaking.
The 4-year-old had tried to run a bath and didn't turn off the water. The damage was tremendous, but at least she or her younger brother didn't drown. They very easily could have.
Insanely, the kids were left with her.
