Kamala Harris was not appointed as the "border czar"

Then immigration should be an issue of strength for Kamala this fall. Best of luck with that.

How so? Has the border been a high point of success for the Biden/Harris administration?

Hint: Nobody thinks the border isn't a problem....

I read that as steaming migration by addressing the root causes, not actually by dealing with anything at the border.

It won’t matter. People won’t look into it that deeply. The Press will lump her in with border security anyway because that’s how it’s been sold. Disingenuous as it is, it will be a weakness for her in the campaign.

So don't fix the border, just get back into the business of nation building?

Maybe Kamala can arm all of the military aged men crossing the southern border and send them home to clean up their own mess. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Biden's words "Stemming migration" not in large enough font in the title?
No, they’re not. Because on their own those words don’t mean whatever you want them to in the moment. Just making them larger does not change their context.

I understand the concept but she was not in charge of the border. It’s in the article. She was to look at other means in the countries of origin. Now you can whine all you like about how successful this policy was, but her role in it was diplomacy not border security. She was never the border czar, whatever that is. It’s disingenuous to sell it as such.

And as I said the media will still sell it that way regardless.

This looks like an admission that under the Biden/Harris administration, the border is wholly fubar.
The border has been fubar for the past 75 years regardless of who is in charge.
The reality is it is fubar by design. Neither party will "fix" immigration across the southern border there is just too much money in not "fixing" it.

Decades of failed nation building and drug policy is what has brought us here.

You’re changing the subject. I’m not saying do nothing. Biden had a border bill. Different topic.

I’m saying that wasn’t the job Harris was given.

He saw the word border, got triggered and thought this was a discussion about border policy in general. Knee jerk reaction. Happens to conservatives all the time.

Watch this: abortion!

I keep seeing this claim that Harris failed in her duties as Biden's border czar. There's a perspective that she was given the job of fixing the border problem and she failed at it. I assume those who think this is true might want to know that it's actually not true.

Harris was never put in charge of the border or made "border czar," immigration experts said. President Joe Biden tasked Harris with leading the administration's diplomatic efforts addressing the "root causes" of migration in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Harris was not asked to be the administration's "border czar" or to oversee immigration policy and enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border. That has mainly been the responsibility of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and his department, which oversees the country's main three immigration agencies, including Customs and Border Protection.

But Ms. Harris was not, in fact, appointed border czar, nor was she tasked with addressing the broader problems plaguing the border itself

Now that we've established the truth of the matter, we can positively identify a few elected officials who have lied to you about it:

And the next time you see Trump or anyone else repeating the claim, you'll know that they're lying to you. Vote accordingly.

Hope that helps!
LOL youre buying into the gaslighting. Here is proof that she was indeed appointed as border czar, by none other than Biden himself.

Ah, you are playing a game of cups, then...

What job are you saying she was she given then, and was it successful? Clearly it wasn't successful, whatever it was... unless her job was to increase the rate of illegal border crossings, in which case she was a wild success.

There are stories at the time from Democrat-friendly newspapers stating that she was clearly taking over for Jackson in April because Jackson took the fall for the rise in border crossings after Biden policies sparked a border stampede.

No, it's a weakness for Harris, and you're desperate for it not to be.

You can try to cast immigration as a fringe issue, but it's simply not going to fly as the data says otherwise. Gallup has consistently found immigration to be the single most important non-economic issue with registered voters:

I'm sure single issue voters who are concerned about immigration will vote for trump. I'm sure MAGA will.vote for trump.

Outside of MAGA, who is going to consider her responsible for the border? This isn't a winning issue because it won't stick to her. That's why I'm asking you is this all you got? Isn't there something you can actually criticize that her supporters will believe? What else you got?

I was being facetious. But trying to stop border crossings by fixing the problems in countries south of the border is also nation building.

And for what it's worth, I'm opposed to Trump's plan to start a war with the Mexican cartels. I'm all for issuing maximum sentences to cartel members caught in the US, but I'd rather militarize the border than send the military to Mexico.

How well do you think she did in the job you think was given to her?

Better than the roughly 270 or so Republican members of Congress, who could have voted to give Biden the financial and human resources to improve border security but chose not to because MAGA Jesus told them they couldn't.

Sorry, can't take you seriously on this one. That article was not the least bit ambiguous. Biden tasked her with figuring out how to stem the flow of migration across the southern border. In the other article I cited Harris explain how the administration was going to do that: turn people away at the border.

It wasn't done.

Non-answer noted.

It really is amazing how people get wrapped around their own political axels defending both Harris and Biden over the border crisis. They act as if the problem is somehow so complex that a "solution" needs to be figured out and, well, gosh, it's just beyond the abilities of even a great VP like Harris or the authority of a great President like Biden.

Bullshit.

It's really not all that complex. Enforce the border using the laws already on the books. Refuse anyone who is undocumented, returning them to Mexico. Detain (not release) anyone who claims asylum until their case can be adjudicated. And for anyone actively evading border patrols, begin using live fire as a deterrent.

The reason the Biden administration never did any of these things -- even though it has always been within their power to do so -- was that they didn't want to anger the open-borders wing of their party.

(And I was able to do all that without visiting the border ... or Europe.)

It's actually the best answer considering that the vice-president doesn't really have any power to do anything about the border and Congress does.
See post 121. You're dead wrong on that point. The Constitution gives the Executive branch all the authority it needs to defend the border. Claims to the contrary are an attempt to gaslight.

You should take thst back because it's a dumb shit thing to say.

Not all Republicans, Libertarians, Conservatives are Trumpers.

Most are, and those that aren't are more dangerous than the average illegal immigrant.

I think more my point was that this isn’t simply the fault of the Biden administration that many here really try to insist on. I can’t speak for them but I wasn’t born yesterday. This has been going on for a very long time. To pretend otherwise is silliness. I appreciate your acknowledgement of our past.
