Judge gives go-ahead for the Trump administration to gut USAID's workforce

USAID is mostly "all bad" the abuses of funding NGO's and just plain foreign aid DEI based ,,I have no idea how much but it's billions
Yes the farmers payments are interrupted. they'll get it again when those programs are established under State Depy

You gotta break an egg to make an omlete
Given the price of eggs, that's a pricey proposition. Perhaps your message is best suited to the farmers complaining about it.

Whose defending it?

It happened 16 years ago. It makes zero sense to tear down the entire thing because we all know that it will take years to build it back.
Yep. It's a false dichotomy, since I'm sure we can manage to provide aid and get the CIA agenda out of it, while also being more selective as to how aid is distributed and the amounts.

I never thought I'd see the day when so-called liberals and leftists would staunchly defend obvious instances of illegally funded clandestine CIA ops. Crazy shit.
All because of Trump which has caused a huge realignment. It's now the left that's aligned with the Neocons, the CIA/FBI, the forever wars movement and the military industrial complex. Crazy times.

Republicans got the country into a post 9/11 mess and their solution to that mess is to rapidly tear the entire government apart and when Democrats object to the rapid dismantling of government because of the mess that Republicans caused it is now the Democrats fault.

Just amazing.

That is just insanity.

How hard is it to put into place a team of people to review funding going forward? If the funding doesn't align with the administration then affect change going forward. To tear the entire system down without a bit of warning and leave people stranded across the world with food rotting because there is no one to distribute it because of money that has already gone out the door is simply idiotic.

It's interesting how you're extremely concerned with the theoretical situation of food going to waste in the short term but seemingly have no concern whatsoever for endless waste and abuses of taxpayer dollars.

I wonder if partisanship has anything to do with that jarring contradiction....

In my opinion, a key element of MAGA's excitement to gut something is because they don't understand what it funds.
Actually, we want USAID destroyed because we know it's a front for CIA that's used to promote regime change, destabilize other counties & also funding the illegal immigrants coming into our country. It's an evil organization that uses humanitarian aid as a cover.

This is the problem with the framing of this.

Any sort of criticism of Musk's rapid dismantling of the government is then framed as "Well why DO you like fraud waste and abuse?"

It isn't a discussion that is being held in good faith because it assumes that the rapid dismantling of the government is the only way to root out fraud waste and abuse.

Whose defending it?

Plenty of people are defending the act of turning a blind eye to it, including yourself. What kind of excuse is, "But, but, but....it happened 16 years ago so it doesn't matter!"

It happened 16 years ago. It makes zero sense to tear down the entire thing because we all know that it will take years to build it back.

Abu Ghraib happened over 20 years ago. Does that no longer matter? How about Watergate? How about Japanese internment?

It's just terrible logic that doesn't hold up under even minimal scrutiny.

Restructuring government isn't a bad thing, in spite of the fact that it will inevitably lead to transitional problems. Those who are attacking government restructuring, with all the obviously bloated bureaucracy, waste, crime, and abuse right in front of their noses, will never accept valid reasons for government restructuring. If not now, when the federal government has tens of trillions in debt and all that obvious waste, then when?

Hyperpartisans are made because it's not their guy doing it. If it was their guy, they'd automatically get in line without asking any questions.

Some of us are glad someone is finally taking more direct action, flaws or not. This is a paradigm shift that's needed across both controlling parties.

Where did I say it doesn't matter? What I said is that it happened 16 years ago so to use that as an excuse to dismantle the entire thing is really stupid.

Do we completely dismantle the military because of it? You see how silly that is?
It's just terrible logic that doesn't hold up under even minimal scrutiny.
How so? If we want to affect change we can do so going forward. We can't change what has already happened. Completely destroying the entire department is not a rational way to do it.

USAID was 1% of the federal budget. Sure... make a case for restructuring. Make a case for funding things that align with the adminstration. Make those cases. Imploding the entire thing overnight doesn't fix the past nor is it going to be effective in the future. It is going to take years to build it back up.

Simply doing something like rapidly tearing down the government is easy. Building things is hard. This group is not going to build anything back.

This is the problem with the framing of this.

Any sort of criticism of Musk's rapid dismantling of the government is then framed as "Well why DO you like fraud waste and abuse?"

Any sort of criticism of the rapid dismantling of wasteful aspects of government is also not paired with any rational discussion of the waste being targeted.

Or alternative solutions that those people feel would be better.

Instead, they just piss and moan and engage in ad hominem fallacies.

If they want to be more effective, perhaps they should make an effort at implementing rational strategies instead of just bitching and attacking without offering any alternative solutions.

It isn't a discussion that is being held in good faith because it assumes that the rapid dismantling of the government is the only way to root out fraud waste and abuse.

If you're concerned about good-faith arguments, then take note of what I wrote above and start off on the right foot. Perhaps the response you receive at that point will be much different.

It turns out that, "Everyone I don't like in politics is a <insert ad hominem attack> and you're a <insert ad hominem attack> for defending their actions" is not the way to initiate a discussion if you want to be taken seriously.

I haven't made that ad hominem attack. I am having a discussion.

So far all that I have seen in response my objection to the Musk plan of rapidly dismantling the government is that I must A) be a neocon B) support a very stupid CIA plan from 16 years ago C) defend waste fraud and abuse.

Assuming that the only way to root out what can be seen as waste fraud and abuse is by completely killing the entire department makes no sense to me.

Fraud is an easy thing... we can agree that fraud perpetrated on the american taxpayer should be rooted out. If Musk shows actual fraud... then good on him.

Waste and Abuse are different words for policy choices. What one administration deems as wasteful another does not. Instead of nuking the entirety of the department shift funding goals to programs that better align with the adminstration... whether that be cutting funding for arts programs in the other countries or what ever tickles their fancy.

Blowing up the government isn't a good way to solve these problems and will have long term effects on our international standing.

So when one is objecting to what Musk is doing... the assumptive argument that since one isn't with Musk then they must be for waste fraud and abuse is very very silly.

Plus... no one has been able to tell me why DOGE needs access to my tax filings.

All because of Trump which has caused a huge realignment.
Not really, no. If you pay attention to what the complaint is it's not about a "huge realignment", but rather the way the restructuring is being done.

It's now the left that's aligned with the Neocons, the CIA/FBI, the forever wars movement and the military industrial complex. Crazy times.
This is false as well, and betrays how over simplified some are trying to frame the opposing views.

I was talking about politically and not what's going on now with DOGE.

It's absolutely true. The left is aligned with all those things the right used to be aligned with.

I was talking about politically and not what's going on now with DOGE.
You can apply it to that as well, though there is no real realignment culturally. The only thing that's going to happen from that perspective is the sides getting further stuck in their positions.

It's absolutely true. The left is aligned with all those things the right used to be aligned with.
It isn't. There has definitely been a shift in the demographics of both political parties, but between both political leans it's not as clear cut.

Notice how quickly MAGAs want to divert away from the malaria drugs, HIV medications, etc that will not be distributed or the clinical trials that will be stopped to talk about conspiracy theories and hypotheticals.
I don't know about clinical trials specifically, but malaria and HIV medications would appear to be except from the 90 day pause:

Give examples
You've already been given numerous examples. Why would doing that again be useful?

If you are serious about needing examples, then search for info on Russia funded troll farms.

Sweet! Are we paying out the farmers affected by this, and is that calculated against the "savings"?
🤔
No, that will come from tariffs like last time. So American consumers will be footing the bill.

Can't we just use the savings from all the cuts Elon's making? I heard he's up to $5 trillion in savings. At this pace, the US government can buy everyone in the country brand new BMW M3s.
:)

Well, sadly, those savings are all fiction, so tariffs it is!

This is the exact kind of content pushed by Russia funded troll/ bot farms .

Let's get the details on *all* the US foreign aid done through USAID. And the details on how it all supports regime change & disruption & increases illegal border crossers.

Just examples of $25K here and there spent on things MAGA hates.

Omg, you guys blame everything on Russia. New age McCarthyism.

Nice cliche ridden post, based on MAGA talking points.
