Joe Biden Proposes new Reforms to the Supreme Court

Now he is calling for reforms and ethics for the Supreme Court? A bit late, where was this say... 3+ years ago?

Three plus years ago, Democrats believed their party would run the country unopposed for the foreseeable future. They had just won Georgia and Arizona in the presidential election as well as both senate seats in those states. The Supreme Court would be a nuisance, but they would wait out the deaths/retirements of Alito, Thomas, and Roberts and subsequently create a liberal supermajority without any major rule changes. Now that opportunity is gone, and those justices will be replaced by Trump. So now it’s important to make structural changes and try to get Biden one more nominee.

Ben Sasse said it best, the Congress has shirked its duty for many, many decades. They have avoided the real debating that should happen in the people's house.

It's time to change that back to how it was intended.
Agreed. It's time to change a LOT of stuff back; we've allowed our government to wander that far.

It's telling how they are good and non-partisan reforms yet MAGA still derails the thread to attack Biden.

Supreme Court reform has been flaunted for more than 50 years. And these would be good changes for the future. The fact that 9 appointed judges sit for a lifetime and make critical decisions only harms Americans.

I don't support 'packing the court' or anything like that. But a new judge every 2 years makes for routine appointment and grows the size of the court so that less power is concentrated in the hands of a few.

I agree about the changes. I thought the 18 year terms were a good idea years ago.

That said, Democrats only seem to want these changes when they have the opportunity to choose and confirm the nominees. When Biden first took office, many wanted to add justices because they assumed Republicans would never again control the Presidency and Senate.

Biden is on his way out and was frustrated that Thomas and Alito survived his tenure. Now that Trump will choose their replacements, Biden wants to change things.

It’s no different than Harry Reid saying democrats should use the nuclear option for Supreme Court justices when he thought Hillary would win, then opposing McConnell doing so.

His proposal includes

1. A constitutional amendment affirming that the President is not above the law. And the President can be prosecuted.

2. Term limits on the Supreme Court Justices to 18 years and additionally the President will appoint new justice every two years.

3. Increased Code of Ethics which includes disclosing conflicts of interest and refraining from public political activity.

Love it but he should have turned the key on all of that on Jan 21, 2021.

Who would rewrite it?
We can't even discuss individual issues in a way to resolve them.
Perhaps 50 sovereign nations with a seat of government lacking any permanent residents, more or less centrally located, and an EU form of government would be a better solution?
Pretty sure they were being sarcastic.
