It's amazing how an election loss, even as big as this one, still doesn't put a dent in the thinking that lost it.

Trump actually didn't do bad in CA., well, he did badly, but not as badly as in 2020 and 2016. I think he snagged about ten million more votes form the state this time around.
Can we agree to try to make our posts Reality-based instead of wishful thinking our posting Alternative-based facts?

CA lost one EV from 2020 to 2024, went from 55EVs to 54. So far, with about 95% reporting, the raw vote total in 2024 has also gone down substantially from the over 17MIL in 2020. Note the percentage change too: in 2020, Biden: 63.48% Trump: 34.32%. In 2024, Harris: 58.8% Trump: 38.1%.

Trump in 2020: 6,006,518
Trump, so far, in 2024: 5,743,421

A few of our DP members really impress me with their ability to make meaningful predictions based on data. To name a few: @Perotista @Anagram and @Tender Branson .

No one in DP has come forward to admit greater financial losses as a result of this election than me. I made 4 bets, totally $25,000 and lost all four bets. It definitely stings. It helps that I didn’t lose more than I can afford. I also feel confident about future betting. I have time to regroup.

Congratulations to our DP Trump Supporters. In the numbers that count the most, the 93EVs in the 7 Swing States, we know the final score: Trump 93 - Harris 0.

I'm actually curious here, why do you think that is?
Some of it is a scare tactic to get foreign powers to open their markets rather than face his economic wrath. He has sure scared the shit out of the American left, imagine how the global left is feeling. Other tariffs will be used to entice manufacturers to build things here. Mexico, for example, will stop allowing their country to be used as a pipeline for illegal migrants into the US to avoid tariffs that will destroy their economy.

??????? what is "backwards" ??

No----no problem with those. and what does THAT have to do with our discussion???
The discussion is about focusing on what got us to where we are right now. The Democrats lost because they mis-read what Americans really want to see. Trump is making an effort to right what the Democrats wrongly assumed Americans were looking for.
If you don't approve then get out of the way and let the new Administration do what they believe is best for the country.
The voters have spoken as to who should lead the nation.
If you don't like it then tell your blue state representatives to do better than they did a couple of weeks ago.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks after they lost to the majority of voters. It's not helpful.

Well said. The Dems should embark on a period of self-reflection much like the Republican Party did after losing the house in 2018 and then the presidency and senate in 2020.

Post #85

````````````````````````````````````````````
What in @Decypher's post could have upset @Gardener to this degree?
Besides her obvious posturing, history of abusing any who do not march in absolute lockstep with her dogmatic views and complete lack of introspection?
To be fair to the libs here, they hate everything that is not benefiting the neo-left agenda. It's not just Reagan. But, if you measure the hate, you can see just how good a politician really was/is. How much do the hate Trump? A lot more that they ever hated Reagan. GW Bush was definitely the worst POTUS in American history. Funny how much the left like him now.
It is blind tribalism in action.
They do not know WHY they believe all the things they do, only that they are required to believe them.
You wait and see what happens when Trump takes office. His overall job approval on his policies won’t be any better than Biden’s was, perhaps even worst. Am I crying over spilt milk? No, just living in today’s modern political era of polarization, the great divide, the super, mega, ultra-high partisanship. Just being a political realist. I stand by my last sentence, “The Americans people end up not liking the new president’s policies as much if not more than they disliked the old president’s policies.” Such is life in today’s modern political era.
You could be right. But, then again, I hope you are wrong - for the country and for the Western world.
The stakes are just to large for seemingly patriotic Americans to do nothing but condemn the choice of a duly elected leader of our country.
"It's amazing how an election loss, even as big as this one, still doesn't put a dent in the thinking that lost it."
Bill Mayer, with a very sarcastic tone and lots of hyperbole, nailed why the Democrats lost the election. If they don't change, they keep losing. Isn't this what some of us have been saying to those who continue to double down in the defense of their team? He does not defend Trump or his supporters, just to be clear. He's telling the Democrats to stop digging their holes and learn from their mistakes. The entire party has become nothing but a Portlandia sketch. Take one week to ask what you did wrong.
What the thinking that lost the election?
Yes, Maher was right both times.
Trump sucks, despite some of his resonate populist message. And Dems suck for all the reasons he described in the OP video.
The suckage is not mutually exclusive!
WHAT else is new over the past eight years?
The reasons I think the no taxes on tips and overtime are important fights to have, starting now, is people vote their checkbook.
Get working people a break, let them keep a bit more of what they earn, and they will forgive just about anything else, but fail to do it, fail to even try, or even make a fight of it, people will remember that too.
Those special elections that always come up in the House, they won't go your way, and the House controls all spending bills.
Without funding to secure the border, it won't get done.
Nothing will get done but the tax cuts for the rich will get extended, Democrats will win back the House, and they will all play the blame game for everything else and Trump will be impeached until his term is over.
Republicans will loose all credibility with working people, their support will go back to a party of over educated elitist snobs who hate woking people, and we will rinse and repeat inflation and debt until we are left homeless on the continent out founders conquered.
We can't fix this nation in 2 years or less, we can't have another lame duck because he losses the House, and we can't keep the House without the working Democrats and Independents who expect to be able to keep some more of their money to help pay bills in this inflation.
It's the economy stupid!
It will be really hard to get anything done with with democrats, so the GOP is going to have to be really smart and push for a lot of things that benefit the poor, blue collar workers and the lower middle class. The dems will fight it all tooth and nail and then the GOP can destroy them at the polls for it. The GOP just has to stay two steps ahead of these neo-democrats. The beat them in an election, thus proving they know how to outsmart them.
You mean like the tax cuts? The ones that primarily benefitted the rich?
Trump did better than in previous years which is exactly what I wrote in my post above.
"Trump was able to secure 40% of the vote as of Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, which is more than he was able to rally when he took on President Joe Biden in 2020. That election year, Trump tallied in 34.3% of California voters.
According to Golden State election maps provided by the Associated Press, Trump flipped 10 counties to red during the 2024 presidential election — as of Nov. 7, 2024 — that had previously been blue for Biden back in 2020. Those counties include Butte, Nevada, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Inyo, Fresno, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange."
So what are you going to say if he does implement his proposed blanket 10-20% tariff
They, the GOP, have two years to show they are right with everything they plan to do. At least Trump is making bold decisions to improve the economy for the workers, control migrant flow across our southern border, and to deal with foreign threats from four countries that do not like us.
Those are the issues which caused Democrats to lose control of the government. That reality is still sinking in.
All the Democrats are trying to do is come up with a plan to resist the new Administration. Heaven forbid the new Administration is proven right with their plans.
Biden was more popular than Trump. You can look it up yourself.
ROFLMAO!!!!!!
Hillary Clinton? She was underwater too! You have no clue what you're talking about.
She whas underwater for sure, however neither she or libruls accepted it. As I recall,The national polls all the way to election night had the hildbeast in the lead. The state by state polls had her in the lead. RealClearPolitics gave Trump a 16% chance of victory right up to election day. The hildabeast had the same problem as Dopey Joe. No charisma.
1 Bill is an asshole
2 this was not a big victory, it has been sold as such
Biden had no problem beating Trump, last time. And Trump is doing worse now, than Biden did last time.
How so?
We all saw Biden's weakness this time, and the ill-conceived resurrections of the weak short-notice Kamala. A proper rigorous contested primary would have produced a better candidate.
Again, the Democratic Party has only themselves to blame.
Trump is INHERITING the best economy the world has ever known.
Right, And all of the voters who stated it was the economy that was hurting them at the supermarket and the gas pump were totally wrong.
Isn't it amazing how voter perception can translate into the voters' reality?
Look at the heading of this thread:
It's amazing how an election loss, even as big as this one, still doesn't put a dent in the thinking that lost it.
I hope for the Democratic Party to continue to miss why they lost to Trump.
The democrats were good at setting up traps for Trump in his first term. Now he knows better and it is time for the Trump Admin to set up traps for the democrats. It shouldn't be that hard, as they are so predictable. The republican party is more united and has seen what happens when democrats get power. They know they have to behave and get results, and fast. There's another thing to consider. Biden and the establishment have little time left and are going to make big mistakes to benefit the establishment. The GOP has to make these final actions the biggest scandals possible.
