Because somehow, by the grace of god surely, only the sane leftists managed to find this thread.

We were just making fun of an individual and expressing concern at his proximity to power. I myself have posted about plenty of wacky examples that could be cherry picked against the US. That’s not what’s happening here.

I actually don't mind the idea theoretically of quoting Hitler in agreement when justified. The alternative is an irrationality that every sentence Hitler said was wrong and evil. As terrible as he was, that's not rational, and prevents an accurate understanding. I'd say the same abut trump or anyone. Now, quoting Hitler admiringly to justify the genocide of Palestinians is NOT such a justified example.

That sort of irrationality makes it easier for the next Hitler to get supporters.

Both Hitler and trump said things many agree with. Opposing everything they say drives those people to them.

Hitler *said* things against war for years. trump *says* things that are faux populism and faux concern for the working class. Are those things they *said* all wrong? If so you can find you're alienating people who opposed war or support the working class and driving supporters into their arms.

Hitler wrote about 'the big lie' in describing effective propaganda, for example. Was he totally wrong? trump said he was flattered by being compared to PT Barnum as a con man. Was he wrong?

A statement by a public personality, anyone of them is problematic if after the statement there is a continuous need for clarification and demands for audience to put statement in context. The problem with any positive affirmation of Hitler is that the affirmer almost always has to start complain of having been taken out of context

One can use myriads of other personalities- current and historical to make one's point. It may not be fair on Herr Hitler, but he is associated with pure and unadultered evil; his name taints any point that any attempts to make




Hitler is not to be taken lightly.

I think we're talking past each other. Hitler should not be used for general points that others are fine to use to make. But it's going too far to say that every sentence from him has to be condemned as wrong. The fact that some would wrongly praise or excuse him doesn't change that. There is room for a rational and accurate understanding.
