Relationships add depth and interesting story lines to the comic books. Sexual orientation is a part of relationships. There really is very little way to separate them. Without some relationships, many comic book story lines would get pretty boring and the same old, same old. What would Superman be without Lois Lane? What would Spiderman be without Mary Jane? What would the X-Men be without the myriad of relationships that happen within them?
Just think about how the storyline of the X-men, for example, has been utterly dependent on the mutants' battle against society's views about them, fighting for their civil rights, battling systemic oppression by those who fear them, and finding a safe harbor against the general way they are ostracized by others over characteristics which they cannot control.
Now tell me that there's no reason to have a gay superhero.
Here is what I have a problem with. Holywood cramming the homosexual lifestyle down our throats...no pun intended. Of the new television shows comming out this fall 11 of them have gay characters. whats up with that? Gays are only 4% of the overall population. Asians are 4.8 % of the population why are they not represented in the new shows this fall?
What I find hard to understand is why do we have to care at all about the sexual inclinations of our comic characters?
I'd say, don't ask don't tell leave Donal Duck alone, lol!
This is a non issue for me.
More likely, they are going to have the character start a relationship with a person of the same sex or reveal a preexisting relationship with a person of the same sex. It's possible that it could just come out as something in passing. It shouldn't be a big deal.
.
What utter idiocy. However, it will let the authors pat themselves on the back and tell themselves how awesome and modern they are. It's like when they had Superman (Truth, Justice, the American Way) renounce his American citizenship.
Superheros: Not Intended For ReWrite To Support Progressive Attempts To Remodel Society Or Make Yourself Feel Better.

Spiderman is gay.
My fashion sense is tingling.
No, the gist of my post is that it was inherently a political decision.
