Hey all.. I'm an American living overseas. I keep up with news and all through local media and the internet, but I like to read debate boards because I find out about a lot of different topics and feel that I get a better idea of what's really garnering attention -- not just what whatever media outlet has chosen to report on.

I guess I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but thought I would introduce myself anyway...

Apoc, whereabouts are you in Israel? I visited Eilat and Jerusalem a hundred years ago (roughly ;) ); I only had a few days there but would like to go again sometime and have more time to explore.

I'm from central Israel. (Gush-Dan area)

How was your vacation here?
Eilat is a wonderful place to spend the summer at, I go there every year.

It was short, and a long time ago. I was a univ student studying Arabic in Cairo, we had a long weekend and a group of us thought -- road trip! So we had, like, four days and the cavalier attitude of the American college student.

It was exciting, and fascinating, and beautiful. But I would like to go again now that I am (more of) an adult and could hopefully appreciate the experiences better.

If you go on another vacation here, be sure not to skip on Ein Gedy valley, the Dead Sea, The northern area(Northern Galil, Golan heights, mt. Hermon), and of course, Tel-Aviv.

Thanks for the suggestions! We're currently trying to decide where to go for the winter break -- someplace more nature-y like Malaysia, or historic like Damascus. I'm also really interested in seeing the Great Wall, but that may be too much for our budget.

Oh, and thanks to everyone for the words of welcome...
