I'm thinking that India has a vast tactical advantage. They've had satellites in orbit 25 years before Pakistan even stuck their toe in those waters. I'm guessing that by now, India's eyes in the sky can monitor every military move that Islamabad makes.
I don't like Modi much myself but it's worth noting this is a response to a terrorist attack on Indian civilians.

The US has rarely been an effective mediator.
I for one will favor the secular, democratic state with a general track record of peaceful relations over the totalitarian religious fundamentalist dictatorship that also happens to be the world's number 1 proliferator of terrorism and nuclear weapons, but you do you.

Militarily, there is simply no comparison - nuclear weapons aside, India would simply steamroll over Pakistan. Remember that is how Bangladesh formed. Pakistan decided to let a major typhoon kill hundreds of thousands of people in order to thin out opposition voters in then East Pakistan, the two territories fell into civil war, dragged India in, and within a few days of India being dragged in, Pakistan had completely capitulated. And that was decades ago. Today India is an emerging superpower and Pakistan is... well... it's still Pakistan. Agitating neighbors, harboring terrorists, and being a global nuisance when they aren't begging the United States or China for arms.
Indira sending tanks against a temple of the religion some of her bodyguards belonged to was not her best decision, noI guess the Sikhs were seeking justice.
To be fair, in comparison the U.S. backed regimes in Pakistan have been unstable at best, outright genocidal at their worst.
