This is an issue in its infancy. Only a few visionaries are writing or talking about it. Eventually, we will be forced to decide if we can any longer afford to pit one state against the others, if we can pit one set of laws against the others, if we can afford to have state and regional winners and losers which the nation as a whole pays a price for it. I realize that such considerations are far beyond the grasp of many provincialist thinkers today. But eventually, it will be an idea that must be examined and debated.
We must decide if we are one nation with one people.
This nonsense is not new. Do you not recall "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need" being said sometime in the past? ;-)
no need to be an ass, just sayin'Let me slow this down for you, a bit. The term GLOBAL means not limitted to Maryland. Why would a GLOBAL event affect ONLY the rich people in MD, causing them to move to other states like FL? The article makes it QUITE CLEAR that the flight, of the rich, occured based on MD income tax rate changes, that have since been rescinded. Reading is for the mental, I mean, fundamental.
Rich people who used the resources of their home states or country to amass wealth threaten to leave when it's not quite as cushy as it was before and we don't question their patriotism?
Is there any way to edit the thread title?

Which still has nothing to do with constitutionality.Education is a national issue. It's crucial to our global competitiveness. A well educated populous is clearly necessary for commerce.

Commerce clause, bro.
Of course. You have been taught the wrong meaning. It is not hard to understand what it means.
To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;
What does this mean? Commerce, in this sense, means trade. Regulate means, "to make regular", or uniform. The part specific to the states was created to create a free trade zone throughout the United States, because one of the problems of the time was that states were laying tariffs on imports from other states, and that would not be a good thing for the new country.
Education has nothing to do with making commerce between the states uniform. Therefore it is, on a federal level, unconstitutional.
Fine. They have chosen not to honor the truth and intent of the words in the document, instead going off of personal urges of what government should do.Thanks for your expert opinion, but I think I'll go with the Supreme Court's interpretation.
Why are you resorting to silly personal attacks of the playground type?
You do realize that the Constitution can be changed and has been changed......... many many times. Don't you?

Why is education more of a national issue than police? What, in your view, is NOT a national issue?
Stories like this demonstrate the necessity to be one nation with one set of laws for one people.

So we can all live under your tyranny? No thanks. I'd probably move to another country if that was the case, or fight a revolution in this one.
Spoken like a true leftist MORON. Read the constitution, slowly and carefully, and note the LIMITTED federal powers. State and local gov'ts have MUCH more to do, as far as providing everyday gov't services, than the federal gov't, yet do it with far less taxation. To make everything federal is INSANE, as well as unconstitutional. Think, before you drink, even koolaid.
