Immigtrants Protest Being Fired for Missing Work To March

Here is one case where workers who walked off their jobs to go join the protest marches have lost their jobs...and now they are angry and want their jobs back. There are quite a few stories like this being reported. My response would be, 'Sorry, Charlie. You made your choice.'

While I am not completely naive about racial issues in this country, I also do not side with the workers trying to make this into a Race Issue. Several of the organizers of the march said one of their goals was to affect the U.S. economy that 1 day to show the impact Latinos have on this country's economy....

Now some of those who sought to teach America a lesson about our economy are earning a valuable economy lesson of their own - there is a price for skipping work and blowing off your job to do ANYTHING.

I stand firmly behind the business owners on this one! Freedom of expression? Sure, marching is a freedom of expression, but such a decision comes with a cost. While you may have the right to express yourself, the Constitution does not cover getting a day off to do it whenever you want!

I agree with you. If you are going to come here, then you are going to play by OUR rules, not yours or those who sponsor and use you to achieve their agenda. Tough cookies. Getting fired is an American tradition. It happens every day to lots of people.

Just curious......

Does the freedoms in the constitution apply to every citizen of the world or just US citizens?

You guys do know, that in Mexico, a foreigner isn't allowed to participate in political arenas, protests, clergy, and their constitution allows for them to prevent said foreigners to be given last consideration over their own citizens?

Bottom line is, we are in some deep do-do.

I say build the fence first. Then deal with what's on this side of it.

Yes I have and no one denied them that. They had their free speech and the employers exercised their right to fire them. Everyone was allowed to participate. No problem.

Freedom of speech is fine... on your own time. What about personal responsibility? If I don't go to work for any other reason than the fact that I'm sick I'd get fired too. Keep in mind these protests have been going on for a few weeks now, I'm sure many of these people have missed more than one day of work. What about the businesses that lose revenue because of actions of thier employees? Do they not have the right to terminate the employment of those who are in essence impeding and even sabatoging thier business?

Reminds me of how I heard Rush had read out some type of rules for Immigrants to follow, such as those above. They were extremely strict, brutal even by our normal standards. Turns out the rules/laws he was reading out was MEXICO'S IMMIGRATION Laws and Policy. He suggested adopting Mexico's intolerant Immigration policy, which Mexicans should be familiar with, while enforcing our own existing laws and he said he thought we would see a dramatic drop in illegals flocking here.

Then let's deal with, on our own time, in our own way, the people who have chosen to stay here illegally.

Kinda sounds like UNIONS to me. I can not hire anyone I want for my personal business.

I can not hire someone for lower pay. The goverment gets a say. I can not hire the most qualified because of having to hire a minority or woman to woman to fill a quota. I can not fire a union worker who walks off the job to protest and demand for more pay......but that is a totally separate tirade!

The law mandates that anyone anybody hires has to have a I-9 form. That requires documents that illegal aliens do not have. So, if they are truly illegal, they cannot be "fired" because they were never "officially" hired to begin with. They have no legal recourse. They do not exist.

Even legal immigrants in Mexico are barred from voting, holding office, owning property and are even restricted to certain employment positions. Mexico deported more illegals than the US did last year... does that tell you something considering the ratio of immigrants to Mexico and immigrants to the US? All the immigrants going to Mexico are coming from south of thier border, the reason for this is so that more Mexicans and less centeral and south Americans can make thier way to the U.S. They want to get rid of thier own 'undesireables' and want to send back those of thier neighbors.

You ever READ the First Amendment? It says the GOVERNMENT will make no law restricting speech.

It doesn't say an employer can't fire a slob for not showing up to work.

The Fourteenth Amendment applies the Bill of Rights to "all persons" inside the United States. That includes invading wetbacks.

But there's nothing against making invasion a felony, now is there?

Oh, there's nothing wrong with an employer firing a legal immigrant or a citizen for playing hookey. I just view it as the employer graciously giving the employee as much time as he wants to practice his new hobby.

The First Amendment has nothing to do with it. Congress made no laws to prevent them from demonstrating. There is nothing in it that says that there will be no reprecussions if they choose to ignore their responsibilities (i.e. showing up for work).

Here in Texas, an employer can fire you for whatever reason they wish. There are some protests here over it, but they were hired to do a job, were derelict in performing that job, and therefore have no case. Let them rant, but they wont get anywhere with it. So now, its to the food stamp office with them................Grrrrrrrrr. I am paying for that too. This is one case where I am solidly on the side of the House Republicans. I am just disappointed that they took the felony provision out of the bill, but I am not disappointed that they want the laws of our land obeyed. This bill is LONG overdue.

The last time I checked those rights only applied to legal law abiding US citizens.

Only in America can you invade it's borders,openly flaunt the fact that you invaded,violated and spitted on their immigration laws while advertising which country you are a citizen of,protest that you want something that you are not entitled too and nor deserve and not be arrested. I am sure that if we invaded mexico in large numbers,demanded welfare,rights that we are not entitled too,flaunted the fact that we spitted on their laws and waved the US flag we would be arrested,possible beaten up tossed in prison and or deported for such audacity.

Hey, I agree. My issue here is people in this thread crowing about nasty rude illegal Mexicans refusing to assimilate and play by America's rules. It didn't even say if the people fired at that store were immigrants - they could've been born here, or not even of Hispanic descent, for all we know.

Ok….refusing to assimilate. If I went to France……would I do things the French way? Or… would I do things the American way? If I went to England….same question….my way or their way? Would I try to change either the French culture or the English culture? Would I demand free medical? Free housing? Would I march the streets with the American flag?

I mean come on, should America be the sanctuary for EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD that wants to illegally come here? That would be insane. What is happening today is insane. Because what is happening today is that the secretive immigration court system is putting the criminal aliens rights over American citizens safety. This directly endangers our nations safety. The fact is our government refuses to enforce immigration laws with consistency and basic common sense.

I watched a program the other night and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. There are illegals suing our government for not providing water stations on their illegal journeys into our country. Can you just believe that? I guess America should provide better travel amenities to these outlaws along the Mexican borders. Did you know that because of these lawsuits INS Commissioner James Ziglar activated dozens of rescue beacons some 30 feet tall, solar powered in fact with bright flashing strobe lights and alarm buttons so that illegals can summons help if they need it. Pleazze….

In 2002 families of 11 Mexicans who died attempting to cross the border into Arizona filed a $41 million claim (the first step toward a lawsuit) against the Department of Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I had to leave before this piece finished so I have no idea if these illegals won. I wish I knew.

It gets worse…..Did you know that Texas was the first state to give in-state tuition discounts to illegal aliens? Your kid and mine pay full price……the illegals get discounts …and probably free housing and medical.
Man oh man….Giving them breaks creates an inequity that forces out of state US citizens and legal permanent residents to pay higher rates than those who are blatantly breaking the law and BEING REWARDED FOR IT. Is this fair?

Amnesty…….oh please. We better stop right now giving away taxpayer identification numbers to aliens who exploit them to work illegally. And employees who hire illegals must not be let off the hook any more. No more amnesty programs period.

I think that the states that refuse to cooperate with the Justice systems laws should be forced to bear the FULL COST of detaining and imprisoning criminal aliens. The states that adopt and retain pro—illegal alien policies SHOULD BE DENIED federal reimbursements for health care, education and any cost due to this crime.

Illegal aliens are not immigrants.


Bottom line…
Legal immigration is an integral part of who we are in this country. LEGAL……………NOT ILLEGAL. We have always been a nation of immigrants. But the immigrants in the past did it by legal measures. Illegal immigration is what it says……….. its illegal.

We as American citizens pay for our benefits through taxes…. illegal immigrants do not. If we provide free services to illegal immigrants, our actions encourage and support illegal activity, rather than discourage or punish it. It must, it has to stop.
