"If you have children, don't have a gun in the home"

I don't agree, and my house = my rules.

IMO the proper way to express this is "if you have both kids and guns, it is imperative that you exercise due care to ensure safety is maintained." IMO this includes teaching the children about guns so they don't misunderstand the risks and do something unwise if they should ever have access.

My extended family has raised several generations of kids in home with guns, with no injuries or fatalities involved.

I have kids and guns in my home now; if not for the guns the kids would not be safe. This is due to the fact that the only thing keeping their father away is his knowledge that I will shoot him if he comes here and starts trouble... the father is a drug addict, convicted felon, known arsonist, known felon-in-possession-of-firearms, and general lunatic. The woman and her children have attempted to get away from him before; this is the first and only place were he didn't come and threaten and harass them into returning. He has no fear of jail or ass-whuppin'.... only of death.

I'll keep both my guns and the kids, thanks.

31% of homes have guns, once upon a time it was a lot higher, our ancestors could manage, maybe we should try harder.

This OP is way too Prissy for me.

How about this, "If you have children, don't have medicine in the home?" There is no need for me to point out that medicine can be dangerous and can kill if not used properly. You wouldn't want children getting ahold of medicine or using medicine unless its given to them by their mom or dad. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that medicine can be a poison that can kill a child if not used properly. Therefore under your logic, or Frum's logic that you shouldn't keep guns in the house if you've got children, by the same token you shouldn't keep medicine in the house. Keeping guns in the house when you've got children is no different than keeping medicine in the house when you've got children.
Kids get into all sorts of stuff. So, common sense would dictate keeping dangerous things away from them.

Yep, you have finally reached the (normal and logical) conclusion that in the home does not mean easily accessible by untrained and/or very young children.

And common sense says that would include guns, if you've got guns in the house.

Congress should pass a law mandating every US citizen go out and by a safe.

What safe would satisfy that requirement? A Stack-On cabinet? A Liberty safe that can be breached in about two minutes? A Graffunder?

Slow gun zealot day...this thread only racked up 131 posts in 12 hours.

People who have a gun and do not have a gun safe at home are criminals if you ask me

Good thing I didn't ask you.

Just last night I picked up a loaded 870 and cycled the shells out a couple times so my 14 year old daughter could learn the difference between the sound of a loaded pump action shotgun and an empty one.

But he did manage to work in how he went to school with David Frum. Twice.

So the threads a win for him already.
Too funny.

I used to babysit Barret Moore , the survivalist ( appeared on the Glen Beck show ) but that does mean I know how to open a tin can without any tools.

That will be sure to please those on tight budgets that lack any valuables to put in it. I guess as long as the penalty is assessed on your federal income taxes then it would pass constitutional muster just like the PPACA mandate did.

But you do know who to ask.

really? as opposed to you-

How's Mr Pot tonight?

Like many posters here, I have no problem if you have guns, however, your complete obsession on the subject and your constant haranguing of any poster that dares to actually have a different opinion on your ongoing obsession really says a lot. America...we have opinions you may disagree with, but you just take it too far, you can't see it, but everyone here does.

This needs to be repeated.

Well said.

He's a national level competitive shooter and a former federal attorney. I'd be surprised if he wasn't "completely obsessed" with firearms.

Why do you have a problem with someone's level of interest in a legal product protected by the Constitution?

The name calling happens on both sides.

I ask much the same (in bold) about abortion opponents

If you have children, secure your fire arms. If you're too stupid to do such an essential thing, you're too stupid to have children in the first place.

That’s why the pharmacist puts childproof tops on the medicine bottles.

That’s why I keep our medicine bottles in a locked cabinet before and after they are taken.

Exactly, it is a parents responsibility to tach their children off danger not to hide them from it.

It's pretty simple, don't chase a ball into a busy street, don't touch that gun...

Just lock up your guns. This is not rocket science
