...what will I do?
If a plurality of the American people decide they prefer to head in the direction the Republican Party advocates…I intend to support the newly elected Republican president in heading in that direction.
If I contact my representatives…I will suggest they do the same.
We cannot continue to be a people with some pushing and some pulling; we have to work in one direction. And even though I detest the direction the Republicans have as their destination…if they win the election…I will side with them. In effect, I am saying I will side with the voice of the voters.
I’ll do it reluctantly, but I am committed to doing it.
Frankly, I want to see what amounts to a welfare state…capitalism with major constraints imposed by socialistic thinking. I think that is the proper, moral way for our country to go. I understand that there are many intelligent, well-intentioned people who disagree with that MAJOR LEAGUE.
Anyway…if we go in the direction I prefer…it is my opinion that we can survive SOCIALISM. I flatly think we will be a better nation if we go in that direction...a fairer nation; a more reasonable, logical nation. But at very least, we can survive it.
I consider the direction in which the Republicans are headed…essentially a move toward Fascism.
I despise the very thought of Fascism…and I think we will be a poorer, less moral nation if we go that way. But it also is my opinion that we can survive FASCISM.
What I see as more difficult (perhaps impossible) to survive is what we’ve had for the last 7+ years…with both sides refusing to work with the other…with obstinacy and obduracy the coin of the realm.
Both socialism and fascism have been failures elsewhere (especially when they are in place in their most extreme form)…but we American may be able to make them (whichever a plurality of the electorate chooses) work. We have succeeded in other endeavors where most others have failed; I see no reason to suppose we cannot succeed working with one of those systems in place. Frankly, I think a variation on one or the other WILL eventually be installed (become dominant)…so I hope I am correct is supposing we can make them work.
I think everyone on both sides of the political coin ought to consider support for “the other side” rather than hoping for failure by political opposite. The nonsense of hoping for failure of the opposition is something that should be banished from our society.
