Pretty much nothing at all would change. Politicians don't run government.

hackish threads are hacky

IF everyone voted GOP no one would see anyone else as a hack!

one must have at least two sides for hacks to exist

Some Libertarian you are.

Atomic power. I suppose you mean nuclear power? If so, the absence of nuclear power development is cost and I'm not sure there is any political party that wouldn't have safety regulations for that. At least I hope so.

Freedom to do what? Own Negros? Lynch Gays? Hang the Homeless?

How much tax is OK with you?

Where do you meet "Republicans" that advocate this? DP hyper-partisans speak only for the tiniest minority of loons. Most Republicans and Democrats I know in the real world....would not be able to fulfil your fantasies....

"Democracy"

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

There would be lots of R's by the names of congressmen and the senators. Otherwise it would be about the same. Humans governing other humans is always a messy business.

Meh. But human nature requires a corrective - without the threat of loss, I'd bet things'd actually be worse.

you're on the money there. It is the special interests, lobbyist, huge money donors, corporations, wall street firms etc. the people and money behind our politicians who run Washington.

With 1 president, 435 congressmen and 100 Senators, I'm sure there would be room for a diversity of opinions to balance things out. Our founding fathers established our government with human nature in mind. Our system of government can handle a tyrant without the possibility of leaving the citizenry helplessly oppressed.

Yes party loyalty does exist but I don't think that loyalty is infinite. There would be dissension and discussion amongst the R's if the policy was large in scope. I'm sure the founding fathers calculated the possibility of an one party rule. It happened in 2002. It happened in 2010. Here we are. Still breathing air, eating food, drinking water and complaing about how bad the government is. Our government has and can continue to handle one party rule.

Most of those who do not vote either don't care or they are like my son who says, "What difference does it make, no matter who wins Washington is going to do what Washington wants to do anyway." In other words, business as usual. Most people who vote today do so on slogans or looks. They vote their party or the vote a certain way because that was the way their parents or friends or spouse voted, most have no idea where the candidates stand on the issues. Elections today are popularity contests, each party tries to dig as much dirt on their opponents as possible and run all these negative attack ads to lower the opposing candidates popularity in order for them to win.

The bottom line is who cares whether it is 10% or 100% of the people voting, most are so dat gum uninformed they have no idea what they are voting for, only someone or something told them to vote that way.

I think I'll wait for this thread to get flushed before I opine.

Yeah - that' sort of China's argument, too. No Thanks.

Last time I checked China wasn't doing too bad. In China some religions are allowed to openly worship. This isn't in line with communist doctrine. If not, how was this freedom ever permitted to exist? Could it be through the dialogue of many communist minds rather than one single communist mind?

This would be the China that only just now decided maybe it should take a second look at its' current policy of sending people to gulag-like "reeducation" camps and mass forced abortions? Who still deliberately engages in massive censorship of media, professional, western, and unconventional? Who beats up the families of dissidents and engages in ethnic cleansing?

Yeah... If that's your idea of a government that "isn't doing too bad" and could be considered not a far worse model than the government we have here in the States.....

yeah... again. No thanks.

If you republican like republicans from the 70s and 80s, Haiti
If you mean republican like the anti American tea baggin group now that has openly tried to push America into recession and depression, somalia.

abortions illegal (I.E. safe ones for the rich, coat hangers for the rest)
establishment of a national religion
removal of safety nets for the poor and elderly
increase military spending by more than those safety nets cost, resulting in a bigger deficit
dramatically different legal definition of the word "rape"
national gay marriage ban
science classrooms forced to teach creationism as fact and forbidden to teach evolution
return to the old broken healthcare system and pretend it works fine

did i miss anything.....?

oh yeah, and women become the property of their husband, father, or eldest male relative

ok, maybe I'm being a tad hyperbolic with that one

Except for Sarah Palin. If you don't agree with her, you're a sexist.
