ICE raids across L.A. spark backlash; Trump officials vow to continue operations

Think back to the 2006 immigration protests. More so than today, the crowd displayed Mexico's national flag and sang the Spanish version of our national anthem. The backlash was swift and so was the replacement of Mexican flags with the American flag.

This is likely what those who read their newspapers tomorrow will see:

Mexican flag-waving masked protester becomes the symbol of LA anti-ICE riots: ‘Perfect propaganda for Trump’ (New York Post)

The Mexican Flag Has Become a Potent Protest Symbol (New York Times)

May not matter to you or I, but it will matter. How much is yet to be seen.

I couldn't agree more!

This below, is how you win hearts & minds:

Views of the Trump administration's deportation program headed into this weekend with positive net approval from Americans, including continued strong backing from the Republican base — but also heavily shaped by contrasting views about which people, and how many, are being targeted for deportation.

A slight majority feel the administration's deportation efforts are prioritizing people they believe are dangerous criminals. Those who say this are very supportive of the program, and feel the program is making people in the U.S. safer.

But if people don't think it is dangerous criminals who are the focus of the deportation effort, support drops dramatically.
The survey was completed just prior to Saturday's protests and events in Los Angeles.

So, bottom line, based on the CBS opinion poll, people generally agree with what Trump, DHS, and ICE are doing relative to removing illegal aliens from our country.

It was a xenophobic rant. And the weird part is, you're doing in service of a nation to which you do not belong and for which your advice was not solicited.

There's plenty of fodder in his rant to pick apart.

But since when do we denigrate an argument based upon a poster's country of residence or their citizenship?

It breaks on party lines but also how people react to the criminal deportations/.are you safer or not?

I imagine if I were a member of a community invaded by ICE (a scary alternate reality for me), I would react negatively.
Being hundreds or thousands of miles from such social unrest, who knows if I would feel safer or not.

Voters simply didn’t show up this time and Musk is insinuating that Trump committed fraud to win.

80 million did not vote for Trump in the last election and btw there are over 360 million people in this country.
Also, waving a flag of your heritage isn’t being a traitor, but ignoring our court and ignoring our constitution is.
If I fly a Honduran flag or Mexican flag that’s the freedom I have
. Since, you’re not here, perhaps you don’t understand the US is compromised almost entirely of immigrants

Those freedoms are fine. But in today's events in L.A., it is very bad optics.

These posters are not doing themselves any favors in winning support with their Mexican Flags.

There is nothing wrong with them waving flags from Mexico or anywhere else. What’s wrong is Trump causing the tension to rise three fold

That is not what that poll says. It says ‘if prioritizing deportation of criminals’

Thank you for this.

I did find one item that us Liberals strongly believe in, that MAGA just don't get.

It seems MAGA is out-of-touch on this issue by 2:1.

most forms of anarchism are generally considered leftist. Specifically, social anarchism, also known as socialist anarchism or left-wing anarchism, is a prominent left-wing ideology that seeks to dismantle both capitalism and the state. This is because social anarchism aims to create a society based on mutual aid and voluntary cooperation, rather than hierarchy or state control

Social anarchism aligns with these left-wing ideals by advocating for a stateless, hierarchical, and capitalist-free society. It envisions a society where individuals are free from coercion and exploitation, promoting social solidarity and collaboration

Anarcho-capitalism is a different kind of anarchism that opposes state intervention, but it also supports capitalism. This makes it a right-wing form of anarchism
Id bet money that the instigators of violence are Proud boys

The country agrees by a slight majority, if Trump's going after criminals.

The country more strongly disagrees, if Trump is going after non-criminals.

But the country overwhelming agrees by a 2:1 margin, that those picked-up should have a court hearing before being deported.

We differ in opinion here.

These are not the right conditions to display Mexican flags. Not during a deportation raid. The optics are terrible.

There are some 6 million people in LA of Mexican ancestry and Mexico is a very short distance from LA. My ancestors fought and died for their right to express themselves by waving whatever the hell they want.

Are you asleep?

Provide some facts and leave the hysterics aside...

They are people and in those amendments it refers to people or persons.

The courts have ruled that they do have these rights multiple times so stop the trolling

What Rulings are there regard Illegal Immigrants having the rights of US Citizens?

You have been around long enough to know snd the most recent was when the Supreme Court said Abrego Garcia’s Constitutional rights were violated

I am not even sure what this means... your ancestors fought and died for their right to express themselves by waving a Mexican Flag in America?

Where di they fight and die?

Look, respectfully we differ on this.

I know the optics I perceive, and they aren't good.

Your perceptions differ.

But having a right to do something, does not mean it's in always in your best interests. The Mexican Flag wavers are not acting in their own best interests.

They fought and died so we could have our Constitution that allows free speech and waving a flag is 100% exercising free speech

Nor are the fake ICE agents covering their faces and refusing to provide badge information. Or the officer intentionally shooting a reporter with a rubber bullet.
