How about issuing driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants? How about actively forbidding local law enforcement to contact federal immigration officials if they become aware someone in custody is in the country illegally? How about the enforcement of wage laws on employers for their undocumented workers? How about state-sponsored legal aid for undocumented immigrants?

These are open border policies, and it is you who is buying in to propaganda when you claim they do not exist. You can be excused as you don't live here, but don't fall into the trap of being so arrogant that you think you understand living conditions here in the US better than those of us who live here.

"Simple" is a perfect way to describe what you just said.

But no, open border policies do not mean literally no border control. When conservatives -- like me and not you -- refer to open border policies we are referring to written and unwritten policies that tolerate -- and thus encourage -- illegal immigration. The examples I provided here in MA are in fact examples of open border policies.

I don't really get the distinction.

If those in charge want to apprehend people (they do) , they apprehend them wherever they are found (they are).

I guess I get the nuance that people seem to be ASKING for, perhaps a little decorum but that isn't really what this is about. It is about deporting as many people , that are illegally here, as possible, WHEREVER they may be found.
Criminals (and they are of the crime of being here illegally), again, people want to mince words and have a nuanced discussion about it. There is not one forthcoming.

When Congress gets off their asses, and decides to do something about it, perhaps things change and nuance can be achieved.

You don't get to just make up a new definition for open borders when the normal one isn't politically convenient for you. MA doesn't have any international borders, so it's not possible for MA to have an open border policy.

I am telling you what conservatives mean when they say "open border policies" -- policies that facilitate illegal immigration. You don't get to make up what conservatives mean and don't mean when we describe these policies. Arguing that MA lacks an international border is more than dumb since the issue is illegal immigration, of which we have much. It's also foolish to limit the discussion to physical border security since the most common form of illegal immigration stems from the overstay of visas. The "border," conceptually, is everywhere within the US.

You're not interested in solving this problem, and that is you're right, but you're in no credible position to tell me what I mean or don't mean. That's just stupid.
