This is just sad.
Refusing to wear a mask doesn't make you Superman. Getting 2 vaccines, 2 boosters and wearing a mask doesn't make you a patriot.
We're dealing with a contagious disease in a world where individual liberty is the rule, rather than the exception. Nobody that's wearing a mask or refusing a vaccine, as far as I have seen or heard, is conspiring to force anyone else to make those decisions. On the other hand we have a lot of people (and a lot of government) that IS pushing mandates for masks, vaccines and other measures as well as penalties for failing to comply with those mandates. That's quite a distinction and it's the core of the disagreement so many are having. If the default mandate for government is to preserve and protect individual freedom then we really need to make sure that matters where personal freedom might be restricted are given GREAT consideration and that the LEAST restrictive measures necessary are taken. That's not where we are right now.
There is a feeling many people (not just in America) that governments are restricting freedoms based less on need and more on political posturing. I mean, it was pretty crazy that you had to wear a mask indoors at all times and ESPECIALLY during that 30' trek to your table where, once seated, you and everyone around you was safe enough that your mask was no longer required...unless you're on an airplane. Being seated on an airplane is somehow completely different than being seated in a restaurant. It is also interesting how masks are mandatory unleess you're participating in some kind of event tied to political interests. Be it fundraising dinners, birthday parties or events at 10 Downing masks are for the little people, not the elite.
How much "do as I say, not as I do" should the people of the world be expected to tolerate? How much, "It's the science!!!" followed by another relocation of the goalposts should we just accept as "necessary"? At what point to we get back to the principles of "least restrictive measures necessary" as opposed to "just in case that black swan lands at our feet"?
