I AM the MOST ARTICULATE and WELL SPOKEN POLITICAIN EVER!!!

Elementary students wouldn't ever mispeak after months of grueling campaign and lack of sleep? This wasn't a quiz.
And yet when the former president made a gaff it was beaten over his head repeatedly. Tina Fay(sp?) did a parody about Palin and something in there that Mrs. Palin didn't even say was attributed to her because of that. Basically I'm saying that your people will get paid back by some on the other side, it really isn't more than that. And I don't want to hear the "Obama was tired" excuse on the 57 state comment because that is a deceptively simple mistake, alot can be read into it.

Is it so hard to believe that someone might intend to say that they've visited 47 states and that they're going to visit 48 out of 50, but accidentally squash it together and say 57?
Actually from my point of view it kind of is, I'll even state that your take on it is possible, but IMO not likely.

Do you honestly believe that Obama thinks there are 57 states in the Union?

Simply put it's the stupidest **** up a person could commit, what I believe about the "intelligent" one is a secondary matter.

Let me rephrase the question...Do you honestly believe that Obama thinks there are 57 states in the Union?

Honestly no. now to redirect. Why would someone who is supposedly more intelligent than the rest of us say get something so easy that wrong?

See, I get that and even will concede there is a good excuse off the cuff to flub a little when personal matters are involved. Like I said initially though, he's stacking them up and I can see where people are looking for a little payback for the Bush years. Again, I am concerned with his particular issue flubs and muse on them because I think we all need to know where they are coming from and what it means overall. Just sayin'.

Did Obama make fun of Bush's public speaking? If not, then isn't it going after the wrong target if getting even is the goal?

Maybe so Redress, but like CC said it's a starting point to a weak attack strategy to begin with so think about the people on both sides who focus on cheap shotting the other side and their "any means necessary" tactics and you know bomb throwers are indiscriminate.

Let me ask you once again, since you missed my post....was it wrong when it was done to Bush and wrong when it is done to Obama OR wrong when it was done to Bush and right when it is done to Obama?

Personally, I saw McCain make some verbal faux pas during the campaign and I saw some liberals try to make hay of them. I chastized them for it because everyone missteps. To try and score cheap political points because of a verbal gaffe is just that....scoring cheap political points. Since you seem to be one who goes down that path, I'd also like to ask, what do cheap political points have to do with the actual issues?

So, in other words, you have no problem engaging in the behavior you abhor when done by the other side. Got it.

I agree it doesn't really accomplish anything, I simply think that's what the whole thing is.

True. What concerns me is the reason for the length of the thinking. Is he stumped? Is he trying to say the most politically viable answer? etc. As well, I went to school for broadcasting before going into the insurance business so I have a real pet peeve with the thinking sounds, they got "beaten" out of us during the curriculum so they still drive me nuts to this day.

In my line of work, clarity is important, In school, I had to tape an entire hour session. The one negative comment I got was folks counted 68 "uhhh's" in that session. I know I use it for filler for two reasons: 1) I am uncomfortable with silence in sessions, and 2) I am thinking about the clearest way to say things. I also know that when I try NOT to do it, I become so tongue-tied, I can barely speak. I am thinking so much about NOT saying "uhhh", that I cannot think about anything else. Does it sound great? Probaby not, though I don't do it when I do public speaking engagements. It's just part of my speech patterns.

It's not wrong, it's just not usually funny. Look, all's fair in love, war, and politics within the bounds of the candidate themselves, not family, or serious issues like illness, etc. It's a stupid line of attack, and one I rarely engage in unless I'm in a joking or payback mood. Hope that clears my position up.

I made fun of McCain for them, then again I considered him to be the weakest candidate possible.

I'm really not on either side. I am a registered Republican but am going constitutionalist party if the GOP doesn't get their act together, so personally I will probably be sitting back and laughing at both sides while weeping for our country. You haven't been here long so just take my word for it, I have a very dark and twisted sense of humor and this is one of those issues that is deeply amusing. I'm not attacking Obama for the gaffs as much as speculating and discussing what they could mean.

If you ever want to have fun, tape a natural conversation, then transcribe it and see how terrible it looks written down, even though it may have sounded fine at the time.

Every once in a while, I'll focus on how my client's are speaking for a moment. Remember, they are all teenagers. Most of them use "like" every other word. Once I asked one to try to NOT use it. Same thing happened. She literally got tongue-tied and couldn't speak. It's a speech pattern. Often, it doesn't denote anything other than filler.

Okay, that works for me. Again, my broadcasting education kind of took that "everyman" speach pattern away so it is still hard for me to take.

I can imagine. Usually, I'm so focused on content of what I'm hearing, and the clarity of the thoughts I am communicating, small speech fillers get completely ignored. It often depends on where you are coming from as to whether it bothers you or not. This is probably why the media has a problem with Obama's "uhhh's". They probably come from the same place as you.

True, in your line of work the substance is one that you have to focus on completely or you won't be able to help someone fully. In my education we were always told concise, get to the point, assess, go; in that state every word registers and transitional sounds stick out like a sore thumb.

I've been here long enough to see that first you mock him for not knowing as much as an elementary school student, but then, when pressed, you later admit that you believe he doesn't really believe there are 57 states in the Union. I'm not seeing the speculation, but if you say so.

Ahh, so you cannot even take simple humor. You are so ingrained in the Obama way of politics that anything against the messiah is taboo. Good to know and I don't think you will be getting alot of responses from me in the future.
