Warning from Hu after he read the 'Occupy Beijing' thread.

Chinese President Hu Jintao has warned that "hostile" powers are seeking to "Westernise" the country and called for greater efforts to enhance China's cultural influence overseas.

Hu's remarks published in the latest edition of Communist Party magazine Seeking the Truth come after Beijing ordered the culture industry -- taken to include the media -- to lift its game as China pushes its "soft power" abroad.

"Hostile international powers are strengthening their efforts to Westernise and divide us," Hu wrote in the article, noting "ideological and cultural fields" are their main targets.

"We must be aware of the seriousness and complexity of the struggles and take powerful measures to prevent and deal with them."

I visited China for a week and saw the teen crowd. President Hu is too late. :)

This has been going on for at least the last two centuries. President Hu is a bit slow on the uptake.

Chinas one Child policy = spoiled adults

Listening to rap music and watching Hollywood movies made the Chinese dissatisfied with their conditions. There is nothing wrong with Westernization, if Chinese culture has equal or even more exposure. Let the Chinese choose their own destinies, and in such, their own culture.

I can't wait for the guy who's going to post here talking about how Hu is completely off his rocker and trying to use government to control his people's lives, then go to another forum and complain about how foreigners are destroying his culture.

China to Start U.S. Channel in Cultural Push

China will start airing a 24-hour television channel to homes in New York in the first quarter, the nation’s latest effort to expand state-controlled media overseas as it seeks to wield greater cultural influence. China is expanding the reach of state media overseas and strengthening control of local television and Internet content as President Hu Jintao seeks to curb the spread of foreign influence on Chinese society. The West is using cultural means to divide China, which needs to be alert to this threat, Hu said in comments published this week.

Makes one very thankful for the free and open society we live in here in the West.

Just because our society is free and open compared to China does not mean our society is free and open.

How very spoiled of you!

What more do you want, the ability to run around naked in times square covered in jell-o??

You have all the rights in the world as long as they don't impede on anyone else's rights.

Quit whining.

And which rights of others, pray tell, does my running around naked in Times Square covered in jell-o infringe on?

Do you ever have anything good to say about America? Then say it now.

You know, I would be very interested in getting Chinese media and see what China's people are like and interested in. The only problem I have is that this is only state-operated media.

I'm interested in the Chinese people, not the Chinese government.

It will probably still be much better than RT America.

Well...

I would exalt the United States for its adherence to law and civil rights and civil liberties. But FISA, the PATRIOT Act, and NDAA 2012 prove that's not the case.

And then I would praise the United States for looking for the little guy. But then SOPA and PIPA prove that Congress would rather get kickbacks from Big Business to help them maintain outdated business models by making criminals of average citizens and independent internet entrepreneurs than update their company to the changes brought by the Information Revolution.

And then I would give credit to our elected officials in Congress for being sympathetic to their voters. But then I look at the voting records of Senators and Representatives and it's quite clear they'd rather vote according to their corporate lobbyists than to the benefit of their constituents.

And then I would be proud of the United States for how it uses its military to protect itself and makes the world safe for democracy. But then I remember about all the no-bid contracts handed out in the past decade and the number of soldiers killed because of the shoddy workmanship of those contractors.

And then I would respect the United States for itself respecting the personal choices of its citizens. But then I realize that it makes criminals of those who make the personal choice of indulging in recreational drugs and does not validate the personal choice of two people of the same gender to engage in a legally recognized intimate relationship.

And then I would be relieved that I live in a nation advanced enough to have the latest in medical technology. But then I regret that the more expensive the procedure the more likely the health insurance company will cite the need for it as a pre-existing condition because it's cheaper for them to hire lawyers to contest it than to pay for the procedure.

And then I would hold my head up high regarding to the virtues of our legal system. But then I read news reports of corrupt judges who get kickbacks to provide harsh sentences to the accused in order to keep private prisons profitable.

But hey! At least we've got RedTube! That's something, right? There you go.

Not exactly a "glass half full" type of guy, are you? ;)

Come on man. Nothing's perfect, but things are pretty good here. Try living in Iran for a few years... trust me, this world is full of hell-holes.

This world is full of war, poverty, oppression, and cruelty.

You just don't appreciate how lucky you are to be born an American. You hit the friggin lottery man. Show a little bit of gratitude.

Just because other countries are worse places to live does not mean the United States can't be a better place to live.
