How the FDA lets chemicals pour into America's food supply

Taurine, naturally produced in the body and added to drinks like Red Bull, is shown to accelerate cancer progression in mice via the SLC6A6 gene, which transports taurine to tumors.

The research, published in Nature, suggests taurine may also impact other cancers like colorectal, raising concerns about energy drink consumption.

"....he assumes the FDA is making sure the ingredients are safe.
In many cases, it is not."
As claimed by RFK Jr -- the guy who just said "I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me."

He's not a doctor nor does he have a medical degree just like 8 of the last 10 HHS secretary's.

Did you take medical advice from Xavier Becerra who was also a lawyer?

It's cute you guys think you have some gotcha moment.

Only someone with brain worms would want to ban carcinogens from school lunches.

Point taken. But how many of the last ten HHS Secretaries were environmental lawyers, conspiracy theorists, and anti-vaccine activists?

Finally, right wingers are getting on board with having the government more strictly regulate harmful business practices.

Biden's HHS Secretary was also a lawyer and the left didn't say a word about that.

Anti vax is just big pharma propaganda that rabid vaxers like to parrot.

Finally, right wingers are getting on board with having the government more strictly regulate harmful business practices.
And many Democrats are now against the things they used to support just because it involves Trump and RFK.

Nothing to see here right? It's just a drug company that makes cancer drugs owning another company that makes Roundup which causes cancer.

Bayer AG.

"Health for all, hunger for none"

They've not hidden that they have agricultural products - including PESTICIDES.

Being personally ignorant or uninformed =/= a company "hiding" anything or anything nefarious about the company.

They even have a sub-website specific to their agricultural operations:

Multibillion dollar international companies do often have numerous lines of business.

Why do you always have to use a stawman? I didn't say anything about them hiding anything.

You make a lot of excuses for businesses doing questionable things.

Yeah its totally normal to own the companies that causes cancer and also treat cancer. 🙄

Do you have any comment about roundup, how it causes cancer and is sprayed on most of our crops?

More than 80% of urine samples drawn from children and adults in a US health study contained a weedkilling chemical linked to cancer, a finding scientists have called “disturbing” and “concerning”.

The report by a unit of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that out of 2,310 urine samples, taken from a group of Americans intended to be representative of the US population, 1,885 were laced with detectable traces of glyphosate. This is the active ingredient in herbicides sold around the world, including the widely used Roundup brand. Almost a third of the participants were children ranging from six to 18.

RFK is a walking conspiracy theory, what do you mean "gotcha"? He is a self confessed heroin user with a worm in his brain that takes his grandkids to contaminated streams and eats road kill.

We don't need to "get him", he self owns and revels in it, good grief.

When you have to go straight to the juvenile insults its clear you have nothing substantive to say.

Get back to me when you can discuss things specifically like an adult.

Since when did stating facts about the HHS head become....insults? How far does your denial of reality go?
Get back to me when you can discuss things specifically like an adult.
Thats so weird, you just argued that we shouldn't take medical advise from a lawyer, so apparently we can discuss the past of an official, but if we talk about the choices a current official has made to determine if he has the experience to be giving medical advice, well....it is insulting! To whom? Him? He admitted to all of these actions and conditions, are these things, these lifestyle choices off the table when it comes to his dispensing of medical advice....let alone just being in a position of power that has a huge influence on the well being of millions of Americans?

Its so weird the standards you guys demand from others and then.....there are the standards you hold for your guys. The contrast is enormous.

Sorry if I offended or embarrassed your argument....please, don't let it interfere with you argument. Go on and tell about what a bad idea it is to take advice from unqualified officials.

Up your trolling game. You are horrible while thinking you are clever.

Again, it is so weird that you don't want to debate who is qualified to dispense medical advice as the head of HHS. You were discussing the qualifications of Becerra, now you don't want to discuss RFK's qualities, his practices, his medical advisory qualifications.

And many Democrats are now against the things they used to support just because it involves Trump and RFK.
Thats true, lots of Dems use heroin and have brain worms and eat road kill, strap dead whales on the top of their SUV's, take their kids to sewer contaminated streams......and now.....we don't want to even talk about them.

But the GOP....my gawd, they embrace anyone who switches over to their side no matter their past!
They are a big tent!

Democrats will be mad if this chemical is removed, but oh well. Yoga mats probably aren't too tasty.

The Food and Drug Administration is planning to revisit its approval of the food additive ADA, the agency's top foods official announced Thursday, after longstanding questions over the safety of the so-called "yoga mat" chemical that can be a bread ingredient in the U.S. but is banned in Europe.

Also called azodicarbonamide, the FDA previously approved ADA's use to whiten cereal flour and improve baking bread dough.

Advocacy groups have criticized the use of this chemical in food for years, over concerns about its potential health risks. The "yoga mat" nickname comes from ADA's other uses in the manufacturing of plastics and rubbers.

In Europe, it is illegal to add the ingredient to bread, given the possibility it could result in a possible carcinogen called semicarbazide when it breaks down into other chemicals during bread making.

After international health authorities in recent years also raised concerns over its use in food, guidance from 1965 that had previously allowed for its use was withdrawn by a committee convened by the United Nations over worries that there was not enough data to support its safety.
