How much does this bother you?

I am not bothered by the typos at all. Who has time to check and double check? - it's not like any information will go missing...

I AM bothered, though, by the frivolous use of the word 'Nazi'. I am a Pole. Any further questions?

Nope. No questions at all. My husband is a Pole as are my daughters. If it bothers you, don't get involved in the conversation.

Your good taste in men doesn't excuse your poor taste in other departments :2razz:

I am a grammar and spelling nazi. I admit it. Well, I guess I'm not that bad because I usually don't point it out, but it certainly bothers me when I see it.

Does it bother you?
*Nazi; the 'N should be capitalized because that's the name of a group or organisation.

Seriously though, I don't even notice, and I don't care when I make a typo. If you point out an error of mine then you're telling me you're petty and that I should troll you with further typos.

Since English doesn't follow it's own rules, I don't see why should.

Only when some half-illiterate narcissist berates others as his/her intellectual inferior while spelling every other word incorrectly and having no clue how punctuation and paragraphs are supposed to be used.

I often use spell and grammar check, but not always. I probably edit almost 50% of my messages - mostly typos

I try to read messages for content and grammar/spelling doesn't matter to me. Sometimes I can read messages very poorly written that others can't understand.

that causes him to bold his first sentence in red, and post excessive smilies??

lol. I used to have that problem too. Downloaded a patch for it, though. ;)

Please forgive me.

For me it's not so much written errors that bug me but oral. This is probably because I'm the king of typos myself. I'm thinking in proper grammar and spelling but when I go back and proof read, I see words missing, and instead of are, of and or switched, lack of pluralization, there, their and they're mixed up and spelling errors galore. Sometimes I don't even notice the, right away.

With oral communication errors, its really not something that irritates me but something that I use to asses the speaker's intellect.

There was a discussion about it (in a place which shall not be mentioned), a few months ago. Someone was making fun of him about it, and he explained what was causing it. It had something to do with some software on the computer he uses to post here.

Not sure who you're referring to (red bold?), but anyhow all you have to do is look at a quote from that person. You can see all the [font], [font], [bold], [bold], [color], [color] crap which I despise.

Really, the content of the post is much more important than all the fancy colors and fonts. I just don't have the patience for that.

Check this out:

View attachment 67145591

That was from my local NBC affiliate before the election.

:lamo Super annoying when it's from someone who is being paid to get things right. I've seen errors on closed captioning before. That's pretty bad.

I think most people here at DP are accurate for the most part with spelling and grammar. It really doesn't bother me all that much unless it is completely illegible, but that's pretty rare here.

I do also find those run-on paragraphs with no punctuation to be difficult to read and make any sense of though.

A local radio station has a password of the day and when they announce it--no matter how easy and common the word--they also spell it out. One guy felt it was asinine to spell out simple words, and felt strongly compelled to email the station to let them know what he thought. Unfortunately for him, he typed "sutpid" in the title.:doh

Of course, the following day the station used "sutpid" as the password of the day. And yeah, they spelled it out. :2razz:

On a site like this, no. I have submitted a couple of short stories and usually get hit hard sometimes on the grammar, but grammar has changed since I was last in school in the 50's and 60's. It has evolved and some of the rules are different.

I thunk all baad grmmer and spelling shood be pun-ishble by deth!

It doesn't realy bother me. However, I do find it quite amusing when someone is trying to be a smart-ass and insult another poster's intelligence and they use poor grammar.

FWIW, misusing "your" and "you're" is not bad grammar, it's just using the wrong word.

What does bother me is when someone does it and you point it out and they try to blame it on a "typo". A typo is when you write "hte" instead of "the", or you fat finger a key twice "tthe", etc. using bad grammar or "your" instead of "you're", "their" instead or "there", etc are not typos it is just plain ignorance.

my favorite is when someone does it and then BOLDs, underlines, or italicizes the word for emphasis. you would think that if someone was going to call extra attention to a word, they'd make damn sure they spelled it correctly or used the "write" ;) word.

It never escapes my attention, though I refrain from comment for the most part. Unless someone's being a dick; then I'll point it out just to add to the **** you. Especially if someone's calling me an idiot, while showcasing the literacy of a feral child, raised by chimps. That should never be borne.

You can't log in to an internet forum, where the medium of expression is the written word, and not expect the semi-functional literacy of the general population not to shine through. Most people's language skills are butchery. Sometimes it's annoying, sometimes it's amusing. Most times, I hardly care.

Complaining about spelling/grammar errors while making an error: priceless.

my favorite is when someone makes an error and you call them on it. then the next day you use their own error as a gibe against them and then they jump on you about it. too stupid to remember what they posted the day before.

I think that was the owl from Blade Runner.

It depends. If someone makes an occasional error, it's no big deal, I don't care, but when they are clearly entirely illiterate, it grates on me. Sorry people "u" is not a word, no matter how many times you try to use it that way.

I honestly think my biggest pet peeve is the flagrant abuse of the "..." expression by certain posters. I occasionally use it in a stylistic sense, but some people seem to think it's a catch-all replacement for proper punctuation in general.

i.e.

"I went to the store today...

...This crazy dude was at the counter...

I was like... whoa... that's weird..."

After reading about four lines of that, I'll usually just tune that particular poster out entirely.
:2wave:...
