Hmmm......now that I think of it, Victor Davis Hanson lives in Cali as well.
So, what's with the negative spin on Cali by two of it's notable citizens?
I'm beginning to suspect you and Victor want to keep the beauty and wonder of this state to yourselves.

I live in Cali and own a few firearms.
Maybe it's harder to get a concealed carry permit--depending on where you live--but I don't feel that my arsenal is in danger of being confiscated.

You'll need all you frugality skills. Now, if you're going to Central CA, that's much lower. The big taxes won't kick in at 45K but....you'll need to be clever about your strategy.

Problem is this is a entry level postion where I get payed 45 k no matter what state I'm in but the California one has the biggest upside for what I wanna do and while it will probably work it self out as I get promoted the thought of 12% of my carrer going to liberal policies drives me nutty

Well, that should be a little cheaper housing-wise than several other places in California. I hear it is very hot in Sacramento in the summers though. I am from southern California originally. About your Texas weapons carry permit, there are several states that will honor it, but California is definitely not one of them.

First of all, they call it a CCW in California and I don't think it's reall easy to get one.

One of my good friends, who travels all over the state (he was a coach at the 2008 Olympics ) can not get a carry permit. You have to prove to liberal assholes that you "need" one and if you are wanting one you generally are seen as conservative and thus denied.

I'm old enough to remember when California was a nicer and friendlier place to live or have a business. I was around when the states population was only 12 million. We have just lost to many personal freedoms in California, it has become a nanny state.

The gun laws are ridiculous.

The idiots in the State Legislature are ridiculous.

They (liberals) want to outlaw bullets that have lead ! Steel bullets ! Steel is a ferrous metal. Copper and lead are nonferrous metals. What does ferrous metals do ? They cause sparks. What do sparks cause ? Fire. Do I have to go any further to show how stupid they are in Sacramento.

Boy, that fire is getting big over there in Santa Clarita.

If you come to California, your chances of maintaining, or getting, a Concealed Carry are just about zero unless your job requires it.

The California Senate recently passed more of the most stringent gun control legislation in the country, with the Assembly set to vote on those bills.

Gun ownership, along with most freedoms normal people think of, are frowned on in California.

As a 5th generation Southern Californian, it pains me to write that I would encourage you to avoid this state, unless the job opportunity is trully outstanding.

I turned down a lucrative job offer at Littler and Mendelson-one of the finest labor law firms in the world because I wasn't going to put up with the idiocies of California gun laws and this was almost 30 years ago

california is a cesspool when it comes to our rights and we moved the olympic trials out of California because by 1992, they had banned as "assault weapons" the three most popular olympic rapid fire pistols.

Not entirely. Some of us just couldn't stomach the crook McCain. I'll admit I bought into the speeches and promises as well (sounded so much like Ike). Same reason I voted for Bush the second time. No, not the speeches, but I just couldn't vote for Kerry.

Oh, and my parents dragged us to Sacto in our teen years, it's where they retired. I was out of that hell hole the day I turned 18. Every time I visit it's gotten worse. You know there's a reason it's called the Golden State. It's because that's the color of the dead grass you live with most of the year.

well, I have a very negative outlook on that particular state... so I probably won't be objective.

it's easy to find forks with personal opinions about Cali... enough of them flee that state and move to Texas that you can't throw a rock without hitting one.

45k in Cali is not a very good job...it's not bad, but the cost of living differences with take a big chunk of that ( compared with making 45k in Texas)

also, Sacramento is ugly....if you like west Texas , you might like it though....just don't be fooled into thinking you be moving to someplace beautiful.
there's lots of beauty in Cali, to be sure... but, none of it is in Sacramento.
