Rep. Glenn Grothman, a freshman Republican congressman from Wisconsin, was already well known for his right-wing ideology. The GOP lawmaker, for example, has argued against equal-pay legislation by saying, “You could argue that money is more important for men.” He’s also criticized sex-ed classes because, as Grothman put it, some gay teachers “would like it if more kids became homosexuals.”
Now, however, the Wisconsin Republican is likely to be known for something new. TPM reported this morning:
A Republican congressman on Tuesday night acknowledged that the new law requiring a photo ID to vote in Wisconsin could help Republican candidates at the polls in the general election. The full report from the local NBC affiliate is online here.
“I think Hillary Clinton is about the weakest candidate the Democrats have ever put up. And now we have photo ID, and I think photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference as well,” Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI), a supporter of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), told Milwaukee television station TMJ4 when asked how either Cruz or Donald Trump could win in November.
No he didn't, the reporter made that part up. Yes, voter IDs do help republicans, but not for the reason you and this idiot reporter believe. In fact the real reason is very damning to democrats. When we check that the people voting are legally allowed to vote - it helps republicans.

In person voter fraud (the only kind that can be addressed by ID laws) is basically nonexistent. The penalty is severe and there is no personal advantage for putting a vote it.

Well another Republican has spilled the beans on the real reason behind voter ID laws, AKA voter suppression laws.

Well that sounds stupid - a lot of poor people are Republicans, too . . . or do people honestly think that only the poor support Democrat policies and viewpoints?

So how many people have been persecuted for voter fraud?
Nobody gets their vote taken away with voter ID.As Sam Seder said.... Either this guy believes hundreds of thousands of votes in WI were fraudulent (in which case he should be feverishly investigating), or he thinks takin away the vote of legitimate voters is a good thing for him. Either/or.
How do you know it's "the truth"? Where does he say anything about "the truth"? He's a freshman. He's been in office a whopping 14 months.
Love the left wing soft racism of lowered expectations. As if certain folks, are incapable of getting an ID.
Because demanding a voter have a certain ID solves what existing problem exactly?
Identity fraud, like when that breitbart reporter was able to get Eric Holders ballot. What problem does not requiring an ID solve exactly?
Conservative Activist Allegedly Shows Ease of Voter Fraud Without Photo ID in NC - Breitbart
If we were catching them all the time, then we wouldn't need Voter ID laws now would we?
How do we prosecute when we don't even know it has occurred????

“I think Hillary Clinton is about the weakest candidate the Democrats have ever put up. And now we have photo ID, and I think photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference as well,”
You and I both know full well that outside of outside isolate incidents - of which there are relatively few - there is no documented voter fraud problem of any size or significance. This is a solution in search of a problem.
I have been voting since 1972 and for the first forty years I never had to have a photo ID to present. My signature was enough and that was how they identified me. And there was no evidence at all of any fraud here where I voted.
There is no problem.
Mike Turzai of Pennsylvania was right - this is a way to add to the Republicans chances of victory be denying democrat voters the right to vote.
Likewise there is no problem of people being prevented from voting by not having ID. Half the states require it. So why not make it the standard to lower the risk of fraud?
I already read that. So whose truth is it exactly?
