House intel chairman: No evidence of wiretapping claim - CNNPolitics.com

(CNN)House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said Wednesday that neither he nor the ranking Democrat on the committee have seen any evidence that then-President Barack Obama wiretapped Donald Trump last year, and want the Justice Department to respond to their requests for information by March 20.
"We don't have any evidence that that took place and in fact I don't believe -- just in the last week of time, the people we've talked to -- I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower," Nunes said at a news conference, in reference to the baseless claim originally made by Trump several weeks ago.
Things are getting really interesting.
Waiting to see how Spicer walks Trumps claim back.

Fake news!

Libruls!

Clinton!

Ouch. This has to really leave a mark when your own party (the one you worked hard to pretend to actually be a member of) starts to turn on you and expose your lies.

Cue the Trump supporters to come in and post stupid things now defending Trump.

Yep- Spicers press conference, he has begun walking back Trumps claims. Stating well it was people in this very room that reported it took place, numerous news reports. Yet Trump made these claims and needless to say it backfired as it should
Trump appears to always need someone to blame.
Off topic- But when ACA leaves million without HC, when Medicaid is cut, when, a possibility that Social Security is also cut or as Ryan wants, privatized. Well people will not be happy. And I am sure when R's have their Town Halls which get wild, they cannot blame it solely on Dems.

I thought that had already happened. Anyone that is honest with themselves knows and has so for years that Trump talks only figuratively and that nothing he says can be taken literally. Those were the conditions that he got the job on. We are responsible for that and crying "Wolf" is doing the country enormous damage for no rational reason.

Has this much time and energy ever gone into refuting such a simple and obvious lie?

You know what? Forget I asked that. I just realized the can of worms that question opens up.

Trump made that tweet to take the eye off the Russia ball, and all he had to do was thoroughly humiliate himself, his team and his party in the process.

The headline is fake news in regards to what they provided in the article.

Dosen't mean that there isn't any.

Sadly, I don't think it will have a big effect.

Spicer has gone from backing off the claim, to now saying "we will eventually be vindicated." Meanwhile, it has had its usual effect -- it distracted from real issues, it cast aspersions on the White House's enemies (Obama, FBI etc), and tied up Congress' time, with little direct political penalty for the White House. It's not going to change anyone's mind about the WH or FBI or Obama.

In the long run, I think this stuff hurts the White House; staffers are already super-paranoid and waging turf wars. It prevents them from being effective... which I have a hard time seeing as a bad thing.

Here, let me help you out by quoting Congressman Nunez, who is the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence:

We don't have any evidence that that took place and in fact I don't believe -- just in the last week of time, the people we've talked to -- I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower

So for this to be fake news, he would have to not have said that. Do you dispute that he did? Or where you lying when you said it was fake news? It is one or the other. Which is it...

iLOL

Not one morsel of evidence .. even the (R) head of the House Intelligence Committee can't pump any life into this absurd Trump lie.

A Bigly embarrassment for Donald 'Inspector Gadget' Trump, the GOP, and the shrinking cadre of willfully-blind Trump supporters.

I'd hate to be Spicer right now. It must really suck to constantly have to defend the indefensible stupidity that comes out of Trump's mouth.

He has free will -- he can get a job somewhere else. This is the life he's chosen.

They actually gave the DOJ until the 20th.
When that day rolls around and there's still no evidence, the Spicer and Trump can walk back their claims

Spicer already did walk back the claims. He said that when Trump wrote "wiretapping" he didn't actually mean wiretapping.

Well that's why you have to judge Trump by what's in his heart, not by what he says. ;)

Yes, he did choose this. The biggest mistake he's ever made.

Not if you asked him, so far as I've heard. Reporters close to him said he absolutely loves the bejeezus out of his new celebrity status.

Nuh uh, no way. I'm not looking into that guy's heart. There lies madness.

Well from what I understand, with the slow filling of appointments, Trumps staff are looking at loyalty to Trump, no negative comments, not even 1, as the critical hiring factor.

It was an interesting interview. Though he says he doesn't have any evidence that Trump Tower was wire tapped, which they no longer do because everything is done digitally, he emphasized his deep concern of those associated with the Trump campaign having possibly been caught up in surveillance of another and having their identity unmasked and leaked for political purposes.

He also went on to say to reporters if you take President's tweet literally then Trump is wrong. But if you take it as meaning surveillance we have no answer for that and is calling for Pompeo, Comey and the other heads of intelligence to come forth and inform the committee if Trump, his transition team, campaign were ever targeted for investigation or are currently under investigation. He wants that meeting to take place next week.

Have you watched Spice lately?? He has already begun the walk back. Not going well for him

But none of us are capable of peering into his heart of darkness and figuring out WTF he's going on about.
