One thing that you are underestimating is the psychological damage that has been done to teenagers. My daughter is a high school counselor and kids are freaking out..

I'm not underestimating anything. I am stating that our educators believe it is psychologically damaging to hold a student back and graduating a student who can not read or write is the lesser of two evils.

I totally agree with you that we should not graduate a student who can’t read or write as most teachers.That is why I think this whole thing is bogus. I don’t believe she can’t read or write.

Yes, there were but when hundreds of cases of retail goods came in every week who had to carry them from the truck, check them in and put them on the shelves? The men.
The women made commission, the men didn't for two or 3 days as they struggled with the inventory. Every week.
The women got over as base salaries were the same. Commission was extra.

When i was young i had far too much ambition to be a teacher. Who knew these jobs would evolve into get overs.

The reason I use them is because they have the same amount of education as teachers

You were lucky because you had ambitions that were open to you. Years ago, women didn’t have these opportunities.. they were programmed to be nurses, teachers secretaries, or get a husband. Was your prep school coed?.
In New York City, the specialized high school schools didn’t allow females.
Women are now more than half of medical schools, they are dominating Law schools and , veterinarian schools, etc.. They now have the same ambitions you had.. teaching always had these “get overs”. Sorry you see educating our young people as lacking ambition..

I have to charge a lot because the more I charge the better they think you are and that is a reality. My first speech I charged $500 for an hour and the woman came up to me later and said, “you cannot charge us more but are you aware that you are under charging?”
I now get thousands of dollars for the same speech ( when I work with inner city schools, I charge nothing. ) And in that case, I could make more money in one week than I did a year teaching.

I have. And I’ve read the research, taken classes, workshops on the topic. I’ve sat in conferences discussing the research and data. I’ve received professional development from dyslexic teachers on effective instruction. And, most importantly, I’ve taught students who I suspected had a learning disability (later found out 2 of them were officially diagnosed with dyslexia). Using a whole language approach for dyslexic kids (and, truly, all kids) is one of the worst ways to teach them to read and write.

It works. I have taught dyslexic students as well.
