This is why we can't do anything against Illegal Immigrants in this country or stopping more from coming! We have laws but no one wants to enforce the laws. Hillary is now fighting to block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented (ILLEGAL) immigrants. The bill passed in December by the House would make unlawful presence in the United States - currently a civil offense - a felony.
Surrounded by a multicultural coalition of New York immigration advocates, Clinton blasted the House bill as "mean-spirited" and said it flew in the face of Republicans' stated support for faith and values.
- NO, Ms. Clinton - this is not 'mean spirited', but nice pre-election photo-op!. It is totally unneccessary, I would agree with that. The Republicans' answer to the problem is not enforcing existing laws but to make new ones (that we can all ignore).
We need to start booting illegal immigrants out of this country instead of allowing them to stay! It is unfair to those who are working within the system to come to this country! Illegal immigration is a drain on this economy as well!
The SWern states need to follow Az's suit and put troops on the border to force the Federal Govt's hand to stop the hemoraging of our borders! We also need to enforce the curent laws that we have now!
So, Hillary, instead of attacking the GOP as 'mean-spirited' , attack their measure/legislation as being a result of their spineless failure to press for enforcement of current laws and immigration regulations!

Using publicly available data, we estimate the costs of a mass deportation effort to be at least $206 billion over five years ($41.2 billion annually), and could be as high as $230 billion or more. Spending $41.2 billion annually would exceed the entire budget of the Department of Homeland Security for FY 2006 ($34.2 billion) and more than double the annual cost of military operations in Afghanistan ($16.8 billion).

The question is, how needed is this bill? Shouldn't the illegals just be deported, I'd rather not have our courts and prisons have to deal with taking these immigrants in and having us foot the bill. They should be documented, sent back to their country, and barred from returning even legally until they pay an invoice for all of the expenses they incurred from being here illegally.easyt65 said:http://www.newsday.com/news/local/w...,1122337,print.story?coll=ny-region-apnewyork

Published: March 3, 2006
It has been a long time since this country heard a call to organized lawbreaking on this big a scale. Cardinal Roger Mahony of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the nation's largest, urged parishioners on Ash Wednesday to devote the 40 days of Lent to fasting, prayer and reflection on the need for humane reform of immigration laws. If current efforts in Congress make it a felony to shield or offer support to illegal immigrants, Cardinal Mahony said, he will instruct his priests — and faithful lay Catholics — to defy the law.
The cardinal's focus of concern is H.R. 4437, a bill sponsored by James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin and Peter King of New York. This grab bag legislation, which was recently passed by the House, would expand the definition of "alien smuggling" in a way that could theoretically include working in a soup kitchen, driving a friend to a bus stop or caring for a neighbor's baby. Similar language appears in legislation being considered by the Senate this week.
Last December, the House of Representatives passed anti-immigrant HR 4437, introduced by GOP Rep. James Sensenbrenner (Wis.).
It would make all undocumented workers felons, as well as those who help or work with them including teachers, clergy, union leaders, social workers and family members.

So many corporations and companies use undocumented immigrants these days. I think the place to start is there. Severely punish corporations that exploit undocumented workers. The bill that Hillary is against basically makes it easier for employers to abuse undocumented workers - that's the morals/values part.
There is nothing in this bill about workplace protection, in fact the undocumented workers would be more dependent on their employer/sponsors and more vulnerable to workplace abuses.
I think that part of the solution is to make it easier for undocumented workers to get a green card. For the most part, these are people that have fled their country for the promise that America holds. If they contribute to our society, and add to the economy, we should welcome them rather than shun them.

How would we enforce a policy to kick out all of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants? How would we pay for it? That would be a huge government program. (So much for the GOP and small government)
