"While I stand by my opposition to the interference of shariah law into the American legal system, I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends," he said in the statement. "I am truly sorry for any comments that may have betrayed my commitment to the U.S. Constitution and the freedom of religion guaranteed by it."-Herman Cain

I feel like this was his intention all along, but it came off bad due to his very direct nature.

He shouldn't have apologized.

I dont know, I like the guy a lot, im actually still probably going to vote for him... but when he did talk about the muslim stuff I did get the gutt feeling of discrimination... even though i did already know that was not his intent, i believe it was easily misunderstood... so the apology, in my opinion, was a nice way to set the misunderstandings straight... ( even though that probably will have the opposite affect), he still has my respect as a very reasonable/problem-solving candidate.

Oh my god. A politican said something stupid and apologized because he thought it would hurt his chances. Imagine that.

If you're a bigot by nature, you have to have somebody to hate. Since overt racial bigotry is now frowned upon, religious bigotry is a handy substitute.

Pretty much, though I sometimes wonder if "Christian" is used as a code word for "white."

Caine knows there are a lot of bigots in the gop, so he's working hard to convince them to vote for him, instead of bidding for him
