Hegseth intends to rename USNS Harvey Milk

Who cares if he gave his life in military service? Neither did Lincoln or McKinley, yet they have ships named after them. Again, look up the lists of military vessels and I would be willing to bet that not all are named after those who gave their lives in military service or who even served. Where is it written that is a criterion for naming ships?
At least Lincoln and McKinley served as commander in chief. And I think Lincoln deserves the honor for leading the nation through the Civil War. In any case, I am not sure why you keep pushing this. You have lost the point, and the ship will be renamed.

I don’t need straight virtue signalers doing revisionist history to tell me who should be honored as a gay rights icon. Harvey Milk isn’t it and certainly not comparable with John Lewis.
John Lewis is well know as a civil rights advocate for everyone, but he never proposed or sponsored legislation specifically to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community. People don't generally associate him with gay rights, if a ship was to be named for a civil rights leader (and there should be) it would be MLK, not John Lewis.

While Harvey Milk is an icon for gay rights. He sponsored and passed our country's very first gay rights ordinance, prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment and housing. The majority of Repubs still believe gay and lesbian relations are morally unacceptable and more so for radical MAWA's. This is the only reason why Trump and his accolights are committing this egregious act...

The point is not lost. Trump and company seem to have an interest in changing history, whitewashing what has long been accepted by left and right. I imagine he disapproves of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Alabama, which names and commemorates those lynched.

In my view, this approach appeals to the “America’s Shit Doesn’t Stink” form of patriotism. But yes, despite extraordinary contributions to human freedom, the US has also contributed to human misery. You can look it up.

Then what exactly was he honored for????? While he was in the Navy, he was not an activist for lbgtq. It did not exist at the time. It's more likely that he was for the most part attempting to conceal his sexual orientation, suggests that you simply want to honor him for being gay while in the Navy. And it is an insult to Harriet Tubman's memory to compare what she did to Harvey Milk simply serving in the military while gay.

I do not have the power to rename ships. However again, while she probably deserved to be honored in some way, I would not have named a warship after her simply for surviving an assassination attempt. Or should we go ahead and name a warship after President Trump? He survived getting shot as well.

"A John Lewis-class oiler — a group of ships specifically to be named after prominent civil rights leaders and activists — Harvey Milk has officially been in service since November 2021 when she was christened and launched." link
That you might not agree with his political significance and activism isnt the point. The point is he completely fits the naming criteria of that group of ships. And I'd guess that's a solid reason they chose to use such criteria for a group of ships...to remind people of the significance of public service and efforts for change and equality.

No surprise there that an unfortunate number of Americans dont believe in that. Women, blacks, gays, etc. shoulda all stayed at the back of the bus.
It was the specific purpose of that group of ships. And I support that for the reasons that I wrote...the military service that protects our rights and the people and their public service who fight for equality and change based on those rights.

So do you think that's an empty"political" agenda? Or is it a positive extension of the rights the military fights for?

Yes, yours sadly continues. I can understand the shame, but not why you keep posting it.

I stand corrected, there is an oiler named after John Lewis.

It would be one thing for Trump to refuse to initially name a USNS after Harvey Milk, but removing his name after 9 friggen years is just contemptuous and beyond the pale...

Your post makes absolutely no sense.

You are still confusing monuments with warships. as for monuments, librul activists over the last four years have defaced many of them and even wanted to remove monuments to the founding fathers over slavery issues.

So now you are slipping from naming warships for alleged sexual orientation activism to just hating America in general?

I see that you are one of the “America’s shit doesn’t stink” patriots. Acknowledging US history, good and bad (D-Day and Vietnam for example) is not hating the country. German’s remember Bach and Hitler, Brits, Churchill and Henry VIII, French, DeGaul and Petain, Italians Francis of Assisi and Mussolini.

MAGA TDS-induced comprehension shortcomings arent my concern. Everyone else can understand it.

Reminds me of the "selective hearing" dogs have when they dont want to respond.

You have self-induced TDS? Okay then. :D

You think I'm MAGA? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, reading comprehension is not your forte.

No, however you do have an acute case of TDS.

It's a shame you need to be reminded...that term applies to MAGA. As demonstrated by their continued unswerving, unquestioning submission to the 🌮king.

Slavery is bad, do you agree?

How did ROEVEMBER work out for you?

Nice deflection...trying to hide that MAGA TDS.

But I'll tell ya, Dobbs enabled the states to allow women to kill their unborn, or have it killed, with no due process...clearly demonstrating the unborn have no federal legal status or obligation to protect. That's even more clear than Roe, so...(y) We can see the trend in states where the people get to vote on it that we're headed for fewer restrictions, not more. The future looks bright, thanks for asking ;)

The only TDS (Trump Dispersion Syndrome) that exists is in the librul community.

Dobbs simply returned the issue of abortion to the states where it constitutionally belongs.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!! That is the very same point I have made several times on this forum since the 2024 election. Returning the issue to the states puts it back to where the state and local politicians are more accountable to the voters on the issue. I am delighted that you finally caught on. There will be some states with more restrictions some with less.

false but your denial is to be expected. TDS, T Derangement Syndome, is a MAGA affliction...but addicts often refuse to admit to their addictions.

With the benefitting result that I wrote...I'm glad you agree. With Dobbs recognizing no status or rights for the unborn, no state can charge women with murder for having an abortion, no criminal charges at all it seems 😁 And "people's" trending in voting have been for fewer restrictions. Young people are choosing to have fewer to no children more and more, they appreciated abortion as needed. Eventually, the holdouts will die out.

Incoherent nonsense. The Dobbs decision did absolutely nothing other than returning the issue to the states where it constitutionally belongs. That's it. It did not say the states can do "this or that".

So, what you are saying is that you think of "abortion" simply as birth control....no muss no fuss, is if it were a birth control pill or a condom. Not everyone thinks that way.

Elective abortion is for many reasons...if birth control fails, then abortion may be needed to remedy that 🤷 Up to them (y)

Under Roe V Wade, you already had that, and you have not lost it with the Dobbs decision. There were already differing laws in different states, some with more restrictions, some without. Dobbs simply took the feds out of the equation. However, it is cute and quite amusing that after spending the months leading up to the election condemning Dobbs, and screaming "ROEVEMBER" from the mountain tops, you are now attempting to put a happy face on as if Dobbs is what you wanted all along. 😁

Nope...RvW was not clear on the fact that the federal govt does not have any protections or obligations to the unborn....Dobbs is.

And what's amusing is that you are admitting we had the same thing under RvW. You are the best comedy writer! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

You know you are spelling that wrong, correct?

The Constitution does not mention abortion anywhere.
In my view, the government should keep its nose out of people's business as much as possible.
You guys used to claim you were all about 'personal liberty'. That's gone now.
Now you want intrusive government in people's private parts and bedrooms as much was possible. Its weird.
