Healthier food alternatives to fast food

Only if you eat the spinal cord and brain tissue, if I'm not mistaken.:)
I make soup out of that:) natural fat is flavor, transfat is satans smegma:lol:

I was under the impression that thoughts on fat have changed, and that saturated fats are now considered healthier than un-saturated. (Real butter as opposed to margarine). Or do I have my fats confused?;)

Its really all about moderation when you eat. Don't pig out and you'll be ok. "Experts" are always saying something is good for you, then bad for you, then good for you again.

That's a terrible meal, though.
I'm not sure it's any improvement over fast food, nutritionally speaking.

Most fast food, is proccessed, meat parts, sugar lots of sugar... (McDonalds all tastes "like that" due to sugar content".....

It's **** food. The pasta sauce and sausage for $5.00 is far better....

furthermore you stop eating crap, after about a year, try eating it again and it will disgust you....

HAHA - Rollins has something on everything.

When you consider the value of time, cooking becomes more expensive. For example, if the value of my time is $20/hour and it takes me 15 minutes between cooking and cleaning up a meal, that's $5 in time plus whatever the food costs.

So if I was cooking for just one person, I probably couldn't beat the cost of fast food when I add in labor. Now, if cooking for a family, say 4 or 5 people, it becomes a lot more efficient. It doesn't add much time at all to the cooking, but the time cost is now divided over 4 or 5 people.

Naturally, if someone can't get a job and thus can't make money instead of cooking the value of their time might be close to $0. In which case things swing back in favor of cooking.

Counting labor when cooking?

Guffaw - I spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 7 hours preparing dinner. :D

In Spain(and likely other parts of Europe) they hardly cook a steak at all. every place I went to the steaks were damn near raw. They barely took enough time to brown the outside. But whatever they salt it with, makes it pretty good tasting.

As far as the affordability of fast food, for the most part it isn't. You could probably get enough calories using dollar/value menus, and if you avoid the extras like drinks and fries you might get by. When my wife and I were dirt poor, our treat each week was one trip to Wendy's and we spent about $7 on their menu. Otherwise it was alot of pasta, and store brand foods for a while. As far as the other arguments about loading up on veggies on your burger being healthy for you, that is retarded. Its not like the presence of a tomato negates all the saturated fat and sodium in the burger itself.

Speaking of this, know what fast food will give you the highest caloric value/dollar? It's not McDonalds/Wendy's/any of that. It's Chipotle's chips - 560 calories/99 cents.

But I bet those dates were some of the best in your life huh?

I'm solo in College and I cook every meal for myself at my rented home. There are really good restaurants all over the place, and an assortment of fast-food joints, but when I cook it myself there's much more appreciation for the food itself.

I think today's fast paced lifestyle plays a role. Many mothers are in the workforce, short on time, and expected to chauffeur their over-scheduled kids around to various societally mandated 'enrichment' activities. So, they swing by a junkfood establishment to keep their younguns from having a low blood sugar meltdown while they're stuck in traffic on the way home from karate.

As I have said before, there is no way I could eat cheaper having fast food over home cooking. I eat like a horse (fast metabolism) and cannot eat a meal out for less then $10+ with a drink. This is only for myself and I would hate to feed 2-3 kids like myself.

I can however cook at home for a week on $60, thats 2 meals a day. Granted I have to eat cheaper foods but they are nutritious, alot better for you then fast food. Time is the only factor in which I would come out gaining any real advantage with fast food. Running thru the drive thru for me is much faster then preping 2-4 courses + dishes.

Such as? Or would you rather parents just let their kids stay at home eating their boogers and playing World of Warcraft?

Uh yeah. It's required by the govt that parents' send their kids to karate classes? That's news to me.
