GOP senators read Pence riot act before shutdown votes

GOP Senators in no uncertain terms told the White House to stop with the double-down and end this shutdown now. Many of them are feeling their 2020 reelection prospects swirling down the Trump drain.

These people need to be out of power for a long time.

yes all democrats that filibustered the bill that would open the government secure the border and get these people paid should be
out of power for a long time. glad you agree.

Ludin thinks we should reward shutdowns. I wonder if he thinks that applies to democrats too. We’ll open the government when we get universal healthcare. It’s far more important than a wall.

They are doing everything they can to ensure that, at this rate 2020 will be a blood bath with the Dems retaking power across the board.

Not securing wall funding will lose them votes.

More Republicans voted to the Democratic bill than the other way around; what's that say to you?

With the current startegy, they can pretty much guarantee a progressive democrat super majority. Wow are they gonna cry about that!

the first bill would have passed had it not been for schumers filibuster.
what do you say to that?

what do you have other liberals have against better border security and letting people get paid for the work they do?
evidently schumer doesn't care he is getting his pay check this week.

Dems? Apparently you pay no attention to polls.

Both Trump and Pelosi have low approval numbers but what is telling is Pelosi’s approval rating has been climbing during the shutdown and Trump’s has been falling. Republicans with more than two brain cells to rub together understand that means they can’t keep staying the course. Sometimes you just have to accept when you have lost a particular fight.

Obviously you don't, or at least do not understand how to translate the numbers.

Pelosi does not CARE one iota she has in national ratings, they matter not a wit to her personally as she only needs to lead the polls in California during a federal election. The rest of time she could have zero.

Trump on the other hand is rated by the nation, the entire nation including both is red and blue states,

If the election were held today Pelosi would give Trump a run for sure as right now Trump would likely lose to the Pilsbury Doughboy. And Trumps numbers have been fairly solid with his "gang" they are now falling from within Republican circles while Pelosi gets a nudge upward, in support that will transfer to the national stage at the appointed time.

Last poll I saw? "The Wall" is opposed by almost two thirds of Americanas.

Meanwhile International Aid agencies are condemning the deplorable conditions of those arrested, especially children, If Americans had any concept of brotherly love they WOULD declare an INTERNATIONAL emergency and start shipping food, medicine, blankets and clothes...these people are sick, bedraggled, and tired, nothing in their pockets trying to escape tyranny only to be arrested and confined by it.

Now the world knows that when there is an international disaster America will send bombers, war planes and ship and special forces...not food and medicine.

I was referring to Republicans.

That's what the thread is about and all.
Oh, you were acknowledging the Republican failure? In that case I totally agree with you.

As above, most telling is that the numbers are falling within the Republican camp, where is his only support.

Trump is a "boutique" president. He has a very narrow (minded) base which cannot be grown any further without Trump having to seek appear from alternate sources., He may try that, but he will spanked again by his Fox News girlfriend

I understand polls and politics. You, on the other hand, are unintelligible.

Trump has yet to have one single day at even 50% averaged national approval. He thought he was up for the fight this time, but badly underestimated his opponents will to fight back. It’s just gonna keep getting worse for him.

And you have no debate skills, not when you INSULT in the first line.

We will NOT speak again

His point is simple: a congressperson generally need focus only on their state or district's polling, and even then it is when they are approaching a re-election campaign. Meanwhile, a President has to be concerned with national polling numbers all the time, and all potential swing-state polling approaching a re-election (that is, the other side will vote against him very likely and his side will very likely vote for him).

Someone like Trump is a bit of a special case, because his campaign and governance style is to pointedly appeal to a very specific set of people. He has done nothing to try to expand his support in office, so it is absolutely crucial for him to keep that base (while, I suppose, praying the Dems run another Hillary in 2020, with just as inept a campaign as she).

These facts inform the poll-reader as to which polls matter when, to whom, and how much. Yes, it matters that Pelosi is looking better, but that sort of polling rather matters more for the next Presidential campaign, not her own re-election campaign. (She's essentially got a safe seat, no?).

Purposefully misunderstanding somebody else’s post is lazy and cowardly.

Did his post really leave you so stumped that you couldn’t come up with an honest reply?

Oh, so he can't let the Senate Vote on bills to open government, but he's pissed at Trump? let Trump veto it, and try to overturn the veto. He hasn't even allowed a vote.

He's such a coward

They are dealing with a 78 year old lady who has already committed to handing over the gavel to the next generation in 2020. She will be re-elected to her seat in San Francisco until she dies, or it gets washed away in the pacific while at least 12 republican seats in the senate are up for grabs in purplish states in 2020. Pelosi never bothered to defend her reputation much against the GOP attacks before she got the gavel last year. People really do not understand this woman or national political realities at all. Pelosi is a shrewd campaigner who sees things through her Christian moral compass , her father's sense of political values and a solid understanding of both the law, and the House rules.. She is not going to be buffaloed, browbeaten, or bullied into submission very damn often.

The real Pence, or the cardboard cutout who showed up to meet with Chuck and Nancy last month when Trump said he'd own the shutdown?

If it was a "closed door meeting" how does The Hill know what was said? Possibly from leaks from the Senators that did the talking? A real accurate source.
