Washington Post then: Democracy Dies in Darkness.

Washington Post now: Less Democracy, More Darkness.

The heros of Eugene Robinson's screed are the entrenched bureaucrats that Trump and his supporters refer to as the "deep state." Robinson wants you to know that they are the good guys who will undo the mistake voters made in putting Trump in power.

Whether you think they are good guys are not, you've got to admit that this is a profoundly anti-democratic idea. This is exactly the way that left wingers usually end up rejecting democracy and descending into totalitarianism, i.e., over frustration that their agenda keeps getting thwarted. Robinson and the liberals who agree with him are no better than the thugs running Venezuela right now, those that brought the Soviet Union to life, or those that still oppress the people of Cuba, among others.

No group in America is more anti democracy than the Republicans. Gerrymandering voter caging voter registration purges voter suppression methods etc etc etc you guys pay lip service to democracy and you are hypocrites.

Republicans are elected officials and can be held to account; the deep state cannot. The Deep State is elected by no one and accountable to no one. It's odd that you have placed your faith in such people.

They are accountable to their bosses...who are appointed by the President.

Who exactly is this "deep state" made up of that they don't have to answer to a department head or cabinet official?

OP has a very interesting idea of what "deep state" even refers to.

Actually, Trump supporters remind me of Stalin supporters. They both know their leader is lying but support him anyway because they believe in the cause. Sometimes you have to lie for the cause right? What's a few lies when compared to the great cause?

And Stalin supporters bought is BS about being a revolutionary and ignored the obvious fact that he was just corrupt. Trump supporters buy the BS that he is working for them when it's obvious he's just lining his pockets along with his friends and family.

It's unclear if you understand what the deep state refers to.

That's because it exists ENTIRELY within the brainwashed minds of Trumpians and other conservative conspiracy theorists.

Then why is the Washington Post writing about it, genius?

You OBVIOUSLY haven't even read the column in question, have you?

First, the WaPo isn't "writing about it". You are talking about an opinion piece by one columnist, whose column reflects his own personal views.

But, more importantly....you seem to be a typical rightie.....you haven't even read the very article you are deriding. All you can tell me is what you read on Michelle Malkin's alt-right "Twitchy" blog, and (at least in your mind) that's good enough.

Einstein, you are not. :lamo

Do yourself a favor, smart guy. Go find a link to Eugene Robinson's actual column....and READ IT. Don't rely upon empty-headed right wing know-nothings to mis-educate you your whole life, please. If you do as I suggest, you'll see that Robinson is NOT validating the existence of a "Deep State", at all. He's using that term as a way of mocking all of the empty-headed alt-right/Trumpsters who subscribe to that crazy conspiracy theory.

I'm not talking about that column. I'm talking about multiple columns; as in plural, as in more-than-one, genus...

It's unclear if you understand what the deep state refers to.

Then explain it. Departments can push back against Presidents. ICE slow walked Obama initiatives..if he wanted to clean house or put someone in charge he could of. There would be political blowback, and there should, but a group of untouchable ppl with wide ranging power ignores who they answer to.

Then explain it.

The "Deep State" generally refers to federal agencies in Washington that are permanent power-factions in the Government. Members outlast presidents when they are sworn-in and when they leave office. They are un-elected officials, which means they no democratic controls to keep them in check.

That is easier said than done. For the past 5 years the CIA has been involved in a proxy war in Syria, designed to achieve regime change with the Assad regime. Clinton was very sympathetic to that regime change and even criticized Obama for not allowing it to go further, and wanted to impost a no-fly zone in the region, which would effectively start a war with Russia.

Donald Trump not only took an opposing view of the Syrian conflict, he said that he wanted the Russians help to kill ISIS and Al Qaeda. Clinton was exactly what the CIA wanted, and when they didn't get it, they started to undermine the Trump administration with all the leaks. There are even claims that the CIA is withholding information from him.

The intelligence community is not sympathetic to Trump's plans; they will continue to undermine him regardless who is in.

Oh, really?

Multiple "columns" in the WaPo addressing and legitimizing the "Deep State", huh?

Well, then, I'm sure you wouldn't mind posting just a few of them as references, right?

Please, post as many of the "plural" columns in the WaPo confirming this conservative conspiracy theorists' wet-dream (i.e. the "Deep State") as you can find. But, on the other hand, if it turns out that you can't find many (or that you are just making this up), please be just as candid in your apology.

Deal?

Robinson was referring to the career professionals at the Justice Department, the foreign policy specialists, the ordinary men and women who make up the Civil Service System that was formed in the 19th Century to put an end to the politicizing of every day governmental functioning under the spoils system that preceded it. Until a couple of years ago, when the knives came out, you never heard of "The Deep State". Unfortunate that you and your indoctrinated crowd fail to grasp the nuts and bolts of the federal government it actually is.

Trump supporters don't give a **** about democray given your love affair with Vladimir Putin.

Because if enough idiots believe in something, you can discuss it, even though it doesn't actually exist.....genius:roll:

Flat earthers aren’t running the goverment of the United States. People who believe in the moronic fantasy of a “deep state” are.

But hey, at least you got to confirm that you think you are a lot smarter than you actually are.

Classic historical, real-life examples of government agencies undermining administrations: moronic fantasies.

Conspiracies that the most powerful man in the entire world is a Russian operative: totally plausible.

It's no wonder why the situation with Russia ranks dead last on everyone's mind in terms of the "most important issue facing the country". It's no wonder millions of Americans aren't buying your stupidity. It's also no wonder why you keep losing to Trump.

Every moment I run into members of the resistance, I realize that I am actually much smarter than I previously though.
