God and the supercommittee

Link

Okay, millions of atheist heads just exploded. The the Supercommittee, the most powerful committee on Earth, just combined church and state. What say ye?

We are screwed.

Billy Shakespeare wrote something about this very thing: it was called MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

I thought you were going to say, "Get off of my mother, she's mine!"

I just think we should leave god out of this, it's just not helpful.

Why, don't you handle money every day, with the "In God we trust" printed on them? :usflag2:

Nope...

I handle Loonies ;)

I think it's good that they are involving prayer in this :)

So if God tells the committee to end the wars: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, probably Syria and soon to be Iran and also the drug war, audit the Fed, to make taxes equitable for all including corporations the committee will listen and will do that? :lamo

Never happen.

Is that what Canadian dollars are called? Or you mean DP members? Or just me?

All of the above

Nah CD Dollars are also known as the "Loonie" moreso though for the one dollar coin which then carries over to the "toonie" for the two dollar coin.

How can you take an economic crisis seriously?

"The Loonie is Down"

No doubt they asked him to be there, and I find it ironic that you won't say the same for the other members in the room.

I never said otherwise. The whole idea of a supercommittee is idiotic.

In general, anything coolwalker likes is the opposite of all that is good in this world. However, in this case, I don't really care. He just said a prayer... I assume religious folks do that all the time.

Your opinions are like snowflakes...pretty on the surface but they are soon to met away.

I'm curious as to the reasoning for adding this prayer to the memorial?

Is it to exclude the many, many non-Christian soldiers who fought and died in WWII? Do they want this to become the Christian WWII memorial and create a separate memorial for "those other people"?

I don't understand their motivation here.

Well, to each their own, but I think it's kind of irrelevant. Nothing else really matters if they can't come to an agreement. They can pray all they want, but the people to whom they are responsible want results.

It is NOT an expression of religious belief and amounts to little more than a motto or cheer like GO TEAM!. How do we know that?

Critics contend that the motto's placement on money constitutes a "law respecting an establishment of religion" by the government, thus violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and the Separation of church and state. The motto was first challenged in Aronow v. United States in 1970, but the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled: "It is quite obvious that the national motto and the slogan on coinage and currency 'In God We Trust' has nothing whatsoever to do with the establishment of religion. Its use is of patriotic or ceremonial character and bears no true resemblance to a governmental sponsorship of a religious exercise."[19]

OK, how would an atheist feel about that statement? Or s/he isn't a real American?

I don't understand why US can be in such serious debt situation.
They are known to have a above average tax rate and above that, US citizens have to pay tax even if they work outside of US territory (as opposed to Canada that doesn't demand tax from citizens working overseas).

The US government is already squeezing every dollar out of their citizens pockets and when this doesn't work they pressure China with appreciating their currency as well as a beautified name of "free trade agreements" with other countries... which essentially is to lower their production costs. The US probably think that those free trade agreement countries should provide them with the raw materials FREE of charge but have they ever thought of what contribution they give back to the rest of the world?

Freedom? no. The Europeans take the helm.

Democracy? no. again the Europeans take the helm.

I can only think of two reasons why people would want a green card
1) just simple ignorants
2) their home country is worse than US - and that only brings more trouble into the grounds of US.

Seriously, does the American government actually know how to draft their policies? Do they even use their little brain to think when drawing them up?
