“Rudy Giuliani floated the prospect of Donald Trump not participating in further general election debates, after what he believes was inappropriate meddling by moderator Lester Holt, The Hill reports.

Said Giuliani: “If I were Donald Trump, I wouldn’t participate in another debate unless I was promised the journalist would act like a journalist, and not an ignorant fact check.”………..

………… "My advice would be the moderator would have to promise they'd be a moderator." When asked whether he planned to share his perspective with Trump, the former New York City mayor said he would keep private conversations private………..

Good advice but all for the wrong reasons…………. Fact Checking is an intrical part of journalism to correct mistakes and facts misstated………
Why would anyone not want the record to be clear……so to speak……..
And stop the myth of events never occurred continue to be repeated over and over again……

In my opinion, Lester did a TERRIBLE job. The next Moderator needs to shut Donald down when he interrupts either Hillary OR the Moderator. The Mod should MANAGE the debate. Lester didn't and allowed Trump to act unhinged... which though good for Hillary, was bad for anyone actually wanting the debate to stick to format.

I vote for the Mod to have a button that can automatically mute Trump's mic.
 

I vote for the Mod to have a button that could mute EITHER of the participants' mics. Of course, in practical terms, Clinton is too experienced and savvy to ever put herself in the situation where she would need to be muted. Anyway, I think it's fine if Trump wants to be rude and obnoxious as all get out; however he shouldn't be allowed to constantly interrupt and talk over Clinton during her answer time.

I also would love for them have a count-down clock visible to everyone that re-starts at the beginning of each candidate's answer. If someone starts rambling incoherently on for 2 unscheduled minutes, to "rebut" something when the time isn't there to do so, he would have that deducted from his next answer time, even if it meant he couldn't answer at all.

Why isn't this standard practice?

When the one is being asked a question, the other's mic is off. When the other is responding, the one's mic is off.

Oh, that's right, because then it wouldn't be a media ****-show. And we can't have that.

That's what it's all about, RATINGS!!

That's what is so stupid about Trump and his lemmings. They go on and on about how unfair the media is to Trump. The media has gave him $3 BIL in free air time and advertisement. FREE! Yet he whining?

Obviously he's whining about the media because he needs someone to blame when he gets caught in all his lies and BS. So blames the media. And his uneducated supporters fall right in line.

If the media was smart, they'd ignore him. But then? No ratings? So they're just as much to blame.
 
If lies are not permitted we might as well just cancel the debates all together.

If we are going to make your classroom an analogy then Trump said his dog ate his homework and later three guys in business suits show up in your office saying Hillary got an A unless you want to end up Vince Fostered.
 

I would agree with this, and in debates past, there WAS a timer and a participant who went over would be cut off (not their mic, though) and admonished. There were too problems, though, Holt was not strong enough to do that, and Trump became so unglued that he was incapable of following the rules. But I do agree that a "mic silence" button should be used for both candidates.

Yeah, good point. It SHOULD be standard practice, though, just as you said. But then we wouldn't be able to see the circus. Imagine what this last circus will do for the ratings of the next one.
