George Takei, who played Sulu in the original Star Trek, isn't happy about Sulu the character coming out as gay in a new Star Trek movie. Takei came out as begin gay some time ago.
It would dishonor Rodenberry's creation, he thinks. Rodenberry was very supportive of LGBT causes, but his Sulu was the result of a lot of thought, and there were reasons for keeping him a straight character. If they want an LGBT character they should create a new one, he thinks, and not imply that Sulu had been in the closet all those years, because it's not like Sulu to be in the closet.
But Takei misses the whole point of SJW assaults on these old classics like Star Trek, Iron Man, and Ghost Busters, which is to destroy the straight white vision that created them. It is vengeance that SJWs seek; that's their "justice".

The idea came from Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the new films and penned the Beyond screenplay, and director Justin Lin, both of whom wanted to pay homage to Takei's legacy as both a sci-fi icon and beloved LGBT activist.

Let me guess, this is going to be another one of your threads in which you make a bunch of allegations, and you and one or two others who agree with you offering no proof to back up those allegations, after the dozens or so times everyone else has been asking you to,sn't it? This is going to turn into another "homosexals are bad" thread, isn't it?
I'll think I'll skip this thread.

Why are we to assume he was in the closet, because we didn't meet a spouse or boyfriend? That would put most of the characters in the closet.
Won't see it just like I won't see the next iron man.
No reason to support this stupidity.
After watching zootopia almost wanted to write Pixar and tell them to keep politics
Out of cartoons for kids.
It would fall on deaf ears.

All I had to see was a picture of the 4 female ghost busters, and I knew I wasn't going to see that movie. Sorry, but it just doesn't translate. The whole ethos of men going to battle with the forces of evil against long odds and all the testosterone that entails is lost. I can't help but think that if 4 women were out to bust ghosts they'd do it differently, and so what the "new ghostbusters" really represents is a failure of creative imagination.
They ruined ST anyway with this new time line. Seen the first one, I won't watch anymore of them. Probably won't see the new series coming out either.

Women would capture ghosts differently than men?
Sulu had a daughter, which was played by Jacquelin Kim, in Star Trek Generations.
Takai was not interested in making his character gay, but rather moving Asian characters out of stereotypes.
They originally wanted him to have a katana.
Space ninja Sulu beating down hordes of Klingons would have been epic!

In a similar vein, I was having a conversation with a good friend regarding old tv shows and I mentioned that I like to watch Perry Mason. Into our conversation she, being something of an SJW herself, says, "You know Raymond Burr was gay in real life, right?"
I was actually speechless for a second, which is rare. I finally replied, "Yes, I have known that for quite some time."
Inside I was thinking, "What the eff does that have to do with watching and liking old tv shows?"

I normally wouldn't have a problem with them making Sulu gay. It is a reboot so mixing things up is part of the fun.
But don't say you are paying homage to Mr. Takei if you are going to ignore his request on the subject.
