That's because the linear political chart is rather insufficient for pinpointing political beliefs. It works for the controlled opposition going on in mainstream politics, but anything that doesn't fit in the two party paradigm is viewed as indecisive on a linear scale.

Is there any question that Putin is a decisive leader? This isn't to say that anybody likes, much less admires, what he's doing. I don't know anybody who admires Putin...he's ex-KGB and cravenly, despicably ambitious. But that doesn't mean he's not decisive. He is.

I think the key point here is not being decisive but making the correct decision. With the advantage of being a Monday morning quarterback our government have made terrible decisions in the past .
It is like playing chess, you must be thinking 3-4 moves down the line. Too often our political leaders our check players and only do kneejerk reactions.

But finding anything positive in Putin's character to wish for his pure nonsense. His country will always be in danger of home born terrorist acts.

On another side, I think it is poetic justice that this little tough man only grew to 5'5''.

Plenty of left wingers are so fed up with what they see as dysfunctional government that they have come to admire the Chinese Communist government's methods. Thomas Friedman comes to mind. They forget, as do some conservatives, that the federal government wasn't intended to do much or to be all things to all people. They forget that a government frozen with the separate branches at loggerheads is what was intended to be the case most of the time.

But I have to ask, what would Putin do about ISIS? Nada. The US foreign policy blunders from 2001 forward created ISIS, specifically the disbanding of the Iraqi armed forces. If you want to compare Putin to Obama let's look at the Ukraine. Putin has done a huge show of force. He backed a numbnuts who shot down an airliner. And now is sitting around and hopeful the separatists don't do anything stupid. Putin just called for a humanitarian corridor for surrounding Ukrainian forces.

Obama in contrast has been very slow to respond to ISIS because the US population does not want a foreign war. The Far Right does not understand that. Now thar ISIS is going around beheading people Obama is slowly putting forces into play to combat ISIS.

Had ISIS just taken over the country and not acted like animals the US would not have gotten involved. ISIS however has the worldview of extermination of anyone who doesn't think like them. A wholesale conflict with them may be inevitable, but the US doesn't have to go looking for one just to flex military might and spend tax dollars it doesn't have.

Russia has no love of Militant Islamists....and a track record of dealing with them much more harshly than we have. Nor does Putin have any fear of looking the "big meanie" on the world stage.
