Won't move the needle. Not like any of those countries will send peacekeepers to keep the peace. It's a paper declaration. The entire west needs to present a unifying message, something along the lines of - Hamas must be dismantled, peacekeeping force to be sent to Gaza, financial assistance to rebuild Gaza, and a treaty both Israel and the Palestinians can live with.
Like any of THAT will happen.

Four major Western nations recognise Palestinian state, to fury of Israel

UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal back Palestinian statehood

It's about time, hopefully this will start the ball rolling and give more countries the courage to break from Trump's acquiescence to Netanyahu and his inhumane campaign against the Palestinian people...

Who do they recognize as (current) leader of the government of this new state?

This is a good first step but what's next?

The IDF will soon kill all the remaining Hamas fighters and unfortunately their hostages.

They will then turn their full attention to ethnic cleansing to enable real estate development.

Do we just sit back and allow that?

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said recognition would help pave the way for the "State of Palestine to live side by side with the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighbourliness".

Should read the article.

What is Mahmoud Abbas doing to get the hostages released and to actually govern Gaza?

It came too late.

Furthermore......

That would only justify Netanyahu's determination in taking over GAZA, and eliminating any possibility of a 2 state solution!
Israel might even speed it up!
They're talking about E1!

As Canada recognizes a Palestinian state, some in the West Bank fear it's too late

All settlements in the Israeli-occupied territories are considered illegal under international law. But the planned expansion of Ma'ale Adumim is especially controversial, not least because the Israeli government has boasted it will bury the idea of a Palestinian state — as countries including Canada recognized one on Sunday ahead of the United Nations General Assembly next week.

"It is a retaliation, in a way, to the announcement by Canada and other Western states," Palestinian lawyer Hiba Husseini said in an interview at her law offices in Ramallah, a city in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

"[It] sends a strong message to the West: 'If you recognize the State of Palestine, it's really irrelevant for us on the ground. We do whatever we want to do because we control this entire land.'"
The Palestinians say the Israeli expansion will cut East Jerusalem off from the West Bank and further fragment Palestinian communities, making a contiguous state with East Jerusalem as its capital impossible.

The E1 plan has been on the books for decades, but in the past the international community — including the United States — had repeatedly convinced Israel to shelve it.

But the war in Gaza and support from the Trump administration have emboldened hardline Jewish nationalists in the cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has repeatedly vowed
to prevent a Palestinian state.

"Every decision, every rule, every step they make is designed to undermine the two-state solution," said Husseini, who was a member of the Palestinian negotiating team during the 1990s Oslo Peace talks,
which eventually collapsed with each side blaming the other.

Trump's supposed to speak to the UN General Assembly today.
That's something to see, what he has to say about this.

Gee dude, stopping Israel from killing the handful of remaining hostages via their indiscriminate airstrikes is probably a good place to start. Until that happens, anything else is rather meaningless ;)

Perhaps the problem is having terrorists in control and nobody else willing to help remove them from power.

Israel had terrorists in control when it gained independence, yet the West still whines about its Arab neighbors trying to “remove them from power” ;)

The actual problem is Israel’s desperation to colonize other people’s land.

You're right, this won't change the needle and the entire west isn't going to jump in all at once, but it's a start. This is a major change from the status quo. The longer Israel continues it's indiscriminate genocidal (Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world's leading experts say) punishment of all Palestinians the more likely other countries will follow suit...
