Yes, the secret service is still making it possible for Melania to live even though the government is experiencing a partial shutdown. At least Mar-a-Lago is closer than San Juan where the democrats and their security people were living it up on sunny beaches while Trump was stuck at the White House.

The flight was only not approved because of Trump's petulance. That is to say, the flight was only CANCELED because of Trump's petulance. The point is that if Melania vacationing is so important that a military plane is at her beck and call, then there's no reason to ground the third in the US political chain of command from conducting the business she was on by denying her the transportation that was already arranged.

Why does she need to be in the country this very moment? The house has passed budgets, twice, and Mitch will not bring them to a vote. Pelosi doesn't need to be here for Mitch to take up the budget for a vote.

Who is picking on her? My comments aren't about her, personally, but the optics her husband has created by letting her use military craft to fly for a vacation but canceled an aircraft taking a statesperson to visit troops and speak with leadership on the ground in a war zone.

And if the term "Melania Antoinette" bothers you (generic), then surely you recognize the play on the term "Michelle Antoinette" (or worse) that was hatefully thrown at Michelle Obama.

But if I were to take issue with her, it would be twofold:

1) the "I don't care, do you" jacket was in super poor taste

That's incorrect. The house passed a bill, which they knew would be rejected. Not 'bills left and right'. They didn't attempt to pass a bill with the one thing Trump required (even in part), or to try to work out a compromise.

But this is actually way of track. The president can't consider anything - nothing has passed congress. The senate could pass their own bill, which would go to the house, and they should. But until an agreement is made between the sides, it won't accomplish anything.

Probably not. If they wanted to pass a continuing resolution, they could have. I'm not sure the president would accept it though. Democrats have been stringing along wishes and promises for some time, and he seems set to force them to paint or get off the ladder.

Trump shut down Pelosi's planned all expense paid overseas junket to Brussels and Afghanistan due to the shutdown. The government shutdown just keeps on yielding cost saving results. These savings are not hurting America.

Junkets cost money. Big money. Taxpayer money. Politicians sometimes seem to not feel the pain taxpayers experience when forced to fork over that money. The Guardian ran an article on Obama's travel in 2011, entitled

Unless you are Mike Pompeo; they you not only get military aircraft and tons of vehicles and equipment, you get to bring your wife, and supply tons of vehicles and equipment to her as well! :thumbs:
