Fey an Emmy winner for Palin mimicry? You betcha

LOS ANGELES – Is Tina Fey an Emmy winner? You betcha. Fey received an Emmy Award on Saturday for her impersonation of Republican vice presidential contender Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live."

Accepting her trophy for best guest actress in a comedy, Fey thanked "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels and her parents, "who are lifelong Republicans, for their patience."

She was honored at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys, which recognize technical and other achievements for the 2008-09 season and preceded next weekend's main ceremony. Fey has the chance for more awards: She could repeat last year's win as best actress in a comedy series for "30 Rock," and the show also could again claim top comedy honors.

Tina Fey's Sarah Palin parody ranks right up there with:

And...Will Farrel's Bush Strategery

Norm's Bod Dole gets and honorable mention.

It was kinda creepy just how well she can do Sarah! :)

She catches just enough of the real Palin to make her impersonation seem true to the original. But much of the performance's brilliance is due to their physical resemblance. However, I must admit Fey is very funny as Palin. :)

Oh, man, she deserves that Emmy. Her Palin impersonations were devastatingly hilarious. The physical resemblance was uncanny !

I thought it was tragic she was awarded it. The writers hardly put any work into the skits, because the comedy gold was written and spoken by Palin herself. Most of the time, it was verbatim quotes with little to no (no being 95% of the time) exaggeration. It's awarding the lazy writing of Saturday Night Live. I recall one moment where the writers actually put effort, and that was during one of the debate recreations where she held up a flute and asked if this was the talent section.

You may as well have awarded Palin herself for the Emmy, because all Fey did was stand up there and mimick. Citing Hartman's Clinton, Kennedy, Stockdale, Carvey's Bush or Perot, and Farrel's W. Bush is terrible, because in those skits, the writers had to place them in completely original settings and exaggerated their persona, and they did neither with Palin.
