Federal judge refuses to dismiss Central Park Five’s defamation case against President Trump https://whyy.org/articles/central-park-five-defamation-case-president-trump/
A federal judge has rejected President Donald Trump's effort to dismiss a defamation lawsuit against him filed by the men formerly known as the Central Park Five who were exonerated after spending more than a decade in prison for the 1989 rape and beating of a woman who was jogging.U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone in Philadelphia denied Trump's motion to dismiss in a brief Thursday night order.
The five men sued Trump in the midst of last fall's presidential election campaign, accusing him of making "false and defamatory statements" about them during the Sept. 10 debate in Philadelphia with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump misstated key facts of the case when Harris brought up the matter, saying "They admitted, they said, they pled guilty. And I said, 'well, if they pled guilty they badly hurt a person, killed a person ultimately. And if they pled guilty — then they pled we're not guilty,'" Trump said.
The men — Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise — never pleaded guilty; they were convicted after jury trials. Also, no victim died.

This story broke almost one month ago. I just saw it today. I remember this very well, although, some people living in rural America have probably never heard this story and if they did, they didn't care anyway. It was a 'NY story' and who cares, right? Well, we did. Trump was absolutely vicious in his allegations about these five men, who were teenagers at the time of the rape in Central Park. They weren't innocent little boys by any means, but they did not commit this heinous crime. Trump took out a full page ad in one of the NY papers and lobbied for the death penalty for these five men. They spent 7 to 13 years in prison until the day the perpetrator of the crime came forward and confessed to the rape and assault of the Trisha Meili, known as the 'Central Park jogger'.
"Trump's lawyer, Karin Sweigart, in a statement called the lawsuit an "unfounded and meritless attack" on Trump."
This is outrageous considering how Trump spent tons of his money trying to get these innocent 'boys' behind bars for half of their lives, and how he slandered them and demanded they be killed. Kevin Richardson was just 14 years old at the time. Trump never apologized for his attack against these men, and yes, the color of their skin had everything to do with his campaign against them.
