So this list is pretty subjective I admit, it's what I consider to be classics from when I was growing up.

For the purposes of this list, it HAD to be completely PC Exclusive.

But anyway, which is your favorite and why...

Age of Empires.

Don't need to say why....

I remember playing Age of Empires II till it was 6am... was such a great time.

What was equally as great was the Star Wars game based off the same engine.

Galactic Battlegrounds.

So cash:

Classics!?

X-Wing
Tie Fighter
X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter
Sam and Max
Dark Forces
Diablo
Doom
StarCraft
Warcraft
Wolfenstein
Quake
Duke Nukem
....

Commandoes behind enemy lines, now their was an addictive game. Got the old heart racing every time you had to kill a soldier, run into the open etc

I dont consider any games on that poll to be classics, they are far too recent.

Hahaha that's precisely the reason why I never played it again after the first run. It took even more of my time than the first Rome TW did back in the day.
Generally speaking turn-based strategy games are the worst when it comes to time consuming.

Ever played Sins of a Solar Empire though? It's a real-time strategy yet one match can go on for entire decades if the map is big enough.

revolutionary.

Well **** bud why don't you get out your Commodore 64 and tell me all about The Bards Tale.

Bard's was decent. The Mech Warrior games were awesome.

I am so pissed off with that game it's unreal.

So I did quite a session, my first and last.

I found a mod that turns all the ships into Star Wars, was cash (also had a Star Trek one, but it was really unstable and crashed every ten minutes).

Anyway so I built up two massive battle fleets, with a Titan Ship (Super Star Destroyer) and was crushing the enemy into dust... lost the entire thing because the fleet was eventually ground down but I could have rebuilt and finished the job... But I lost all construction capacity because all my systems were overcome by propaganda culture satellite whatevers including my home system.

*Rage Quit.

Haven't touched it since.

My classics include: Age of Empires II, Empire Earth, Enemy Territory and the first Hitman and Splinter Cell games.

Lets go WAY back.

M.U.L.E.

Age of empires is unforgettable and the legendary game of my teenage years.

I've stopped for a while as well until that expansion came out and I got sucked right back into it.
