Fauci: 'Non-workable' to get every teacher vaccinated to reopen schools

So the science says we can do something with preventive measures, and school unions are against that? Why are we having difficulty with following the science now?

You would have to ask L.A.U.S.D. that question. I'm thinking the district and the Union may have some concerns above and beyond the C.D.C's politicized guidelines.

Why do you think Biden is politicizing the CDC? What benefit is there in pissing off his donor base? This probably belongs in the conspiracy theory forum.

We believe in science a lot more than we believe in your fictional God. What we don't believe in is government agencies who have been known to manipulate science to fit a political agenda.

Where have you been for the last year or so? Even Fauci has flip flopped all over the place. If errors are to be made, I would hope we error on the side of safety.

.. not sure what God has to do with the topic .. It is ironic that the CDC recommendations is considered a political agenda in a new administration. Are their recommendations to wear a mask a political agenda now?

Then why have so many latched onto their recommendations as gospel? We are wearing masks because of Fauci and the CDC. Are you suggesting those recommendations are bullshit?

I don't know who has final say over C.D.C. output. I do know that they have made a few contradictory statements in the last year or so. Now, some School districts, for whatever reason, are choosing not to follow their guidelines. Which is their choice. Hence the term "guideline". Otherwise they would be issuing " directives".

Are you required to wear masks in order certain businesses (e.g. grocery stores, restaurants, etc.)? Are you going to play dumb or realize these decisions were based on recommendations from Fauci and the CDC? Face masks .. social distancing .. etc?

Are you wearing a mask? Are you the type of person that needs a Fauci or the C.D.C. to tell you it's a good idea to wear a mask? And why are you so bothered by certain school districts operating outside of C.D.C. guidelines? That's their prerogative. We have to accept it.

Wearing a mask during a pandemic caused by a virus spread through the air should be a no brainer. And it is to everyone except Republicans.
 
Fauci is wrong. It's completely workable for a nation of our stature and capability to prioritize getting every teacher vaccinated and come up with a clear and expeditious strategy to make it happen instead of going on TV offering vaguely defeatist soundbites. When did our nation start shrugging at solving the big, hard problems? Instead of robust intelligent models to intelligently direct stimulus money, we cut equal-amount checks to everyone below some arbitrary line so we don't have to do hard work. Instead of grand projects to re-invent infrastructure for the next century, we patch up what we have. This is yet another example. At times like this I wonder if the USA that put people on the moon really is capable of those kinds of grand organizational initiatives anymore. At least--perhaps the federal government isn't up to the task. What Fauci calls "unworkable" the best of corporate America would call "our March goal."

C'mon Biden, this is what the DPA, FEMA and the National Guard are for.

Color me a bit disappointed.

There is a risk, however small, that these vaccines (like any other drug) could have long-term side effects that have not yet been detected. I think the risk is low enough to promote their use by willing takers, especially in populations that are highly susceptible to Covid. I can't confidently say the same about using them without substantial further study in populations that have very little risk from Covid, especially when that population includes children.

Isn't it the same with all new vaccines? When the smallpox vaccine was developed nobody knew what any long-term side effects, if any, might be. Ditto that for polio, Ebola etc.

Yes, this 'flip-flop' argument against Fauci is common among conservatives who don't seem to understand that it's how science works. You get something wrong, you learn from that mistake, correct it and move on.

That depends on what the preventative measures are, how practical they are logistically for any given school, and how they are implemented. A small, crowded school with narrow corridors, for example, would find it difficult to implement social distancing. If teachers get infected and have to self-isolate, who teaches the kids?

What makes her so special? She is an essential worker. Tens of millions of essential workers have been at work throughout this entire pandemic without a vaccine. The idea that teachers need special treatment is asinine
