Fauci: 'Non-workable' to get every teacher vaccinated to reopen schools

And yet children, even the young ones, ARE REQUIRED BY LAW, to show proof of vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTaP)polio.measles and rubella and varicella (chickenpox) before they can attend public school.

And all of those vaccines have been approved by the FDA. No Covid vaccine has, or is likely to be for quite some time.

Will they cross the picket lines? Teachers who go against the union often get treated like shit going forward which has a chilling effect.
I suspect that, just like the children who are required to be vaccinated, they too, will agree to be vaccinated. But I have no idea. What I believe is that a good portion of the U.S. must be vaccinated for covid, before any semblance of normalcy returns.

Spoken like someone with that assumptive cynical Republican attitude. Have you considered that possibly the majority DO want to get back to in person classes?

Yes, I've considered it, and realized that (1) teachers' unions don't necessarily do what a majority of teachers want, and (2) we can't open schools with "a majority" of teachers, we need pretty much all of them.

True. For all we know, everyone who gets the covid vaccine could grow three breasts and a long tail that looks like a penis out of the end of their back bone. But we're gunna find out sure enough 😉

A lot of Democrats, including the Biden administration, have been afraid to stand up to their donor base when it comes to reopening schools. They've become very anti-science and conspiratorial in an effort to defend their cash cow who is reluctant to go back to work. As time goes on Fauci is slowly becoming less vague with his responses to the media and as of today he is saying the unions who are refusing to go back to work have a "non-workable" request. Meanwhile, the GOP is beating up Democrats on this issue. This isn't that big of a deal because it's so soon after the last election, but it's becoming a distraction and removing the credibility of the Biden administration who has said they were going to listen to the scientists when it comes to the pandemic. Instead, it's becoming clear that he's going to be listening to his special interests, science be damned.
The school year is half over already so who cares at this point. People voted for this leadership, they should get a good mouthful of it. We can try again next fall. If not next fall maybe the year after.

Not very nice when it's thrown back at you is it?

You should be happy your wife has a job.

this conversation has concluded. peace.

There no data on whether the covid vaccine is safe for children. You also don't need a flu vaccine to go to school which is just as dangerous for kids.

School is essential. Remote learning is not working. Children also need social development. Teachers are no different than any other essential worker who have been going to the office for a long time now.

That's cute, but you do realize that this is all a risk/benefit scenario. There is a risk, however small, that these vaccines (like any other drug) could have long-term side effects that have not yet been detected. I think the risk is low enough to promote their use by willing takers, especially in populations that are highly susceptible to Covid. I can't confidently say the same about using them without substantial further study in populations that have very little risk from Covid, especially when that population includes children.

Ok. So what do you recommend? Most Republicans want the schools to open without vaccinations, and as quickly as possible. But if you are so concerned about the unknown risks of the vaccine, are you not just as concerned of the known risk of covid?

There's no other essential workers I'm aware of that are seated in a room with 26 or more kindergarten children who refuse to wear masks, for hours per day. I'm not saying it cannot be done, but there's a lot of safety considerations that need to be addressed first.

If this report is valid, I completely disagree with Fauci. By Law, for years my children have been required to be vaccinated just to attend school. Now is the time to put our teachers and children first. Now's the Time to make covid vaccines mandatory for teachers AND student BEFORE they are allowed to attend class in person. PERIOD.

The vaccine hasn't been approved for kids yet. Not too many kids get sick from COVID, but they can carry it and pass it onto teachers.

Teachers should be the very next ones in line for the vaccine after healthcare workers get it. America has repeatedly thrown teachers under the bus. Time to give them some of the help that they have long deserved.

From Aug 15 to Oct 23, 11 of the 56 districts opened for in-person teaching for the first quarter of the school year. Of the more than 90,000 students and staff in the participating districts, 773 had community-acquired infections with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Six districts reported no secondary infections, two had one case, and three reported multiple cases. Six cases of secondary spread were in preschools, 11 in elementary schools, 6 in middle schools, 5 in high schools, and 4 in K-12 settings. Contact tracing identified another 32 cases that resulted from in-school transmission. No cases of in-school child-to-adult spread were reported.

Of the country's 103,596 preschool teachers and 20 schoolteachers, fewer than 10 were admitted to an ICU by Jun 30, 2020 (an equivalent of 19 per 100,000). Preschool teachers had an age-adjusted relative risk (RR) of 1.10, compared with occupations other than healthcare, while schoolteachers' RR was 0.43.

Etc, etc.

The science is clear. There is minimal risk of student to teacher transmission. The doom and gloom scenarios are not based on science. Children aren't very good transmitters of this virus and generally have mild or no symptoms. However, we are seeing spikes in suicide and mental health associated with schools closing. That is the biggest risk to loss of life.

That's not what the science is saying .. Do you rely on the science or not? Is the CDC no longer a credible source which indicates teacher's don't need to be vaccinated?

Are you disagreeing with science and the CDC recommendations?

Feel free to link to the CDC publication that proves that for the first time in a long time, you are asking a question in good faith. :)

Well the teachers union in Los Angeles apparently doesn't care about science either. They are set to require all lausd employees get vaccinated BEFORE classes resume. I agree with them.

The agency says that it's been shown that schools can reopen safely if they follow strict mitigation strategies,” whether or not teachers and staff have received the COVID-19 vaccine. But, the agency also urges states and local communities to prioritize educators for vaccines as soon as supplies allow it. L.A.U.S.D. isn't taking any chances with their teachers. They are erring on the side of safety... And it's driving the trumpees on this forum crazy.

But there not. I guess all those teachers are breathing easier with the knowledge that your not in charge 😉.
I'm not sure if it's intentional, but you've used the wrong spelling of there, your, etc and you've misused every apostrophe in your posts. This is why it's important for children to go back to in-school education and not take guidance from powerful public sector unions with flat-earth style mentalities. San Francisco recently took account of the suicides and mental health issues post-covid lockdowns and the numbers were alarming. Your anti-science mentality is killing children. We need children in school so they can get the education to partake in future debates like these which requires the ability to comprehend science literature and present their arguments in a way that is not misconstrued due to poor spelling and sentence structure.

So you've decided to complain about my spelling and grammar instead of coming up with a valid argument against my opinions? How Republican of you.
